Description
M. R. S. DAVIS.
improvement in Hooks and Eyes.
Patented Feb. 13, 1872.
E fi f l A MIRANDA R. S. DAVIS, OF KANSAS CITY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH OF HER RIGHT TO JAMES P. HOWE, OF MACON, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN HOOKS AND EYES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 123,619, dated Februzny 13, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Mrs. MIRANDA R. S. DAVIS, of Kansas City, in the county of J ackson and State of Misscnri have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hooks and Eyes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in hooks and eyes for fastening dresses or clothing, and for all purposes to which hooks and eyes are applicable; and it consists in the mode of fastening the hooks serted in the cloth the same as pins, as represented in the drawing, and when inserted they are fastened either by bending the shanks over and down onto the cloth, as seen in Fig.3, or bending over the eye or hook, as seen in Figs. 4, 9, and 10.
A is the eye; B, the hook; 0 represents the shanks, and D the crock in the shanks. E is the material to which the hooks and eyes are attached.
. It will be seen that no needle and thread are required. The improved hooks and eyes may be inserted and fastened almost as easy as common pins can be inserted, and in the most substantial and perfect manner.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A hook or eye, having two sharp-pointed shanks O, crooked at the points D to form shoulders, as described, so that by forcing them through the fabric up to and against the said shoulders, and then bending the ends they are firmly secured.
MIRANDA It. S. DAVIS.-
