BUCKET-HOLDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE W. MARK- WELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sabula, in the county of Jackson and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bucket-Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention contemplates an improved bucket holder especially designed for use by painters or like artisans for adjustably supporting a bucket upon the wall of a building so that the bucket may at all times be maintained in readily accessible position.

The invention has as its primary object to provide a device of this character which may be readily connected to the wall without injury thereto and which may be as easily removed, so that the relative position of the bucket supported by the device may be changed at will.

The invention has as a further object to provide adevice of this character so formed that the weight of the bucket or the object supported thereby will normally urge the device into more secure engagement with the wall tothus provide a safe support for the bucket. And a still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which will be exceedingly simple in construction and which will be of such proportion and size that it may be readily carried about upon the person. 1

Other and incidental objects will appear as the description proceeds and in the drawings wherein I have illustrated the preferred embodiment of the invention and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation showing my improved device applied to a wall of conventional construction, the wall being shown in section, Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device detached, Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing a slight modification of the invention. In carrying out my invention, I employ a body portion 10 which is preferably formed from a single strip of suitable resilient sheet metal. of which is preferably beveledjas shown at 12. Adjacent its opposite extremity, the said strip is bent to provide a supporting leg 13 which is connected with the attaching flange 11 by a substantially straight connecting portion 1 1.

The attaching flange 11 extends at an obtuse'angle laterally and obliquely away from the connecting portion 1 1, while the supporting lug 13 extends at an acute angle away from the connecting portion in a direction opposite to the flange 11 and laterally toward the plane of said flange. At its outer free end, the supporting leg 13 is notched medially to provide spaced spurs 15 which, at their free ends are bentlaterally from the plane of the leg 13 in the direction of the plane of the attaching flange 11,

Mounted upon the connecting portion 14 of the body of the device is an attaching book 16 in the nature of a conventional type of snap hookand which is provided with an eye 17. Freely engaging the eye 17 is an attaching strap 18 which is alsopreferably formed from a single stripof suitable resilient sheet metal bent intermediate its ends to provide a loop 19 freely receiving the eye 17 of the hook with the extremities of the strap disposed in overlapping relation and seating flatly against the adjacent upper face of the connecting portion 1%.

As will be best observed upon reference to Fig. 2 of the drawings, the attaching strap is arranged medially of the connecting portion and is of a length to support the loop 19 projected laterally over one extremity of the said connecting portion so that normally, the hook 16 will freely rest against the supporting leg 13 while, at its opposite extremity, the said attaching strap will abut the attaching flange 11 to thus brace or reinforce the flange at its base. Connecting the said strap with the body of the holder is a rivet 20 or other suitable fastening device arranged to extend through the overlapping ends of the said strap adgagement with the board,

In Fig. l of the drawing, I have illustrated the manner in which the device iscems ployed in use in connection with a wall of conventional construction and provided with the well known type. of siding or weatherboards. As particularly shown in this figure, the attachingflange 11 is inserted between the overlapping upper and lower margins of the contiguous weatherbdards, which, for convenience have been designated by the numerals '21 and 22' respectively, with the lower edge of the board 21 abutting the inner extremity of the' attaching strap 18. In such position, the supporting leg 13 will extend transversely of the board 22 and at an acute angle thereto with the laterally directed spurs15 of the said leg presented toward the board to engage the outer face thereof adjacent the lower margin of the board. When so attached, the hook 16 is adapted to receive the bail of a bucket in the manner shown in Fig. 1 and it will be noted that the supporting leg 13 is so arranged that normally, the weight of the bucket coming upon the connecting portion 14: of the body of the device will normally urge the spurs 15 of the supportin leg into engagement with the board 22; Thus, in use, the device will provide a safe and eflicient. support which may be readily and easily moved from place to place upon the wall, so that, at all times, the bucket may be arranged conveniently accessible.

In this connection, it is desired'to direct attention to. the fact-that should it be desired to yieldably engage the spurs 15 with the board 22,- the leg 13 may be flexed longitudinally away from the said board by moving the outer extremity of the said leg upwardly toward the attaching flange 11 since, when the body of the device is attached in the manner shown in Fig. 1 of the drawings, the attaching flange 11 will be rigidly held between the overlapping margins of the boards 21 and 22,, so that when the supporting leg 13 is so flexed and the spurs 15 are then directed into engagement with the outer face of the board 22, the resiliency of the said leg willact to urge. the spurs into en The device may be so attached tothe wall as a precautionary measure should the bucket it. is desired to attach thereto, be relatively heavy, but under ordinary circumstances, the holder may be connected with the wall in the manner first I described, under which circumstances, the

Otherwise, the construction found in this modification is identical with that found in the preferred embodiment of the invention and since it is intended that the modified construction be used ina similar manner, a further description will not; therefore, be given. Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l.
