The said felt guard-pad holds the pistol and the said wall of the holster away from each other so that the said head shall be out of contact with such wall. Further, it shields the said latching-pin so as to prevent such pin from accidentally being actuated by contact with the said wall of the holster to unlatch and release the magazine. Such release would render possible the undesired escape of the magazine from the receiving chamber therefor within the pistol-handle.

A block of thick well-hardened felt such as I employ has marked advantages for the use and purposes which my invention is in- The felt pad or block has the solidity required to enable it to protect the head of the latching-pin even in the'case of blows or pressure. lit has the strength necessary to withstand hard usage. Yet it is soft enough to have no tendency to cut or abrade the finish or material of the parts of the pistol which make contact with the pad. It acts frictionally to reduce the tendency of the pistol to jump out of the holster. It will not crack like wood, will not go to pieces as rubber and leather will under theclimatic conditions of tropical countries, as in the Philippines. It will not wear into strings and rags like woven fabric. It can be attached quickly and easily to the wall of the holster by means of a sewing machine. It can be made waterproof, andwhen waterproofed is absolutely unaffected by moisture, while wood, metal, or leather would be affected injuriously thereby; 1 An embodiment of the invention is illus trated in the drawings, in which latter,

Figure 1 is a view of a woven holster occupied byan automatic pistol. Fig. 2 is a sectional view thereof illustrating the relation of the felt pad to the trigger-guard and magazine latching-pin. Fig. 3 is a front view of the woven holster without the gun, the front wall of the holster being broken away to show the felt pad more clearly. Fig. 4k is arepresentation of the holster in edge view, also partly broken away to show the felt pad and its application to the rear wall of the holster. Fig. 5 is a front View of the felt pad, and Fig. 6 an edge view thereof, these views being on a larger scale than the others.

Having reference to the drawings,the holster shown therein is of well-known charactor and general construction, the said holster being composed of woven material and in this instance having a seamless barrelportion, and also having its shape given principally in the weaving. As woven it has the seamless barrel-portion 1, a body-portion laterally widened in one direction and comprising front and rear walls 2, 8, which are integrally joined together up and down the straight side of the body in continuation of the same side of the barrel-portion, the margins of the widenings of such walls being woven separate and being stitched together in completingthe holster, and a flap 4-, wider than the body and constituted by a continuation of the back wall of the body. Other usual features of the holster may be as here tofore or as preferred.

The felt pad is shown at 6, attached to the inner surface of the back or rear wall 3 of the body by means of stitches 7 constituting a seam that extends around the margin of the felt pad. The said felt pad is located upon the said wall in such relative position that when the gun occupies the holster as in Figs. 1 and 2 the lower portion of triggerguard 8 and the vertical side of the gun ad j acent the trigger-guard make contact with the front face of the felt pad. The margin or edge of the felt pad which faces .the straight closed side of the body is straight also, so that the barrel-portion of the gun slides alongside the said straight margin or edge of the felt pad, between the latter and the straight closed side of the holsterbody, in inserting the gun into the holster. The upper portion of the felt pad is located so that the rear side of the handle of the gun shall rest against the same. A recess 9 is formed in the upper portion of the felt pad, at the side opposite the straight margin or edge, to accommodate the head 10 of the magazine latching-pin. The feltpad is of its greatest thickness at and adjoining the margin of this recess, in order the more eifectually to separate the head of the latching-pin from therear Wall of the holsterbody, but the margins of the pad at'the top thereof, along the straight edge, and around the bottom, are thinned and tapered beveling them off.
