Definitions
- the present invention relates to devices for warning a person to moving on a given path, the presence, on this path, of objects presenting possibly a danger to it, and more particularly but not exclusively the personal protective devices against objects such as explosive mines or like.
- these devices some work by the detection of materials metallic objects involved in the constitution of these objects, using for example the power of these materials reflect some electromagnetic waves.
- these devices essentially comprise two antennas, a transmitting antenna intended to emit electromagnetic waves and a receiving antenna capable of capturing the waves reflected on the reflective parts of buried objects.
- the analysis of the signal delivered at the output of the antenna receiver can determine whether there is, or not, presence, for example of a mine likely to be dangerous.
- These devices schematically comprise an object detector disposed at a end of a handle, the other end of the handle including means for deminer to hold it and move the object detector in front of him to search and locate these objects. It is therefore obvious that these devices do not allow people who use other functions than locating mines or the like.
- the object of the present invention is to provide a device making it possible to warn a person traveling on a given path, the presence, on that path, of an object potentially dangerous for her, which in particular frees her from the manual use of the object detection devices of the prior art, while it ensuring a good personal safety during his progress on this path, and especially to stop progressing on this path much faster than with the prior art such as those recalled above.
- FIG. 1 represents the schematic diagram of a device according to the invention to warn a person traveling on a given path, of the presence, on that path, objects possibly presenting a danger for it, stating that this device can be used regardless of the nature of these objects, although it finds an application particularly advantageous as an individual protection system against mines anti-personal or similar.
- path means all any area on which a person can progress, without limitation to the nature of this area, and no limitation of location and time.
- This device comprises means for detecting objects 1 able to output 2 a detection signal, the change of state of this detection signal being indicative of the presence, in a predetermined area of the path, of one of the objects capable of being detected. It is made it clear that 'change of state' means any detectable variation of a signal, for example change of sign, change of frequency, exceeding of a threshold determined, etc.
- the object detection means 1 comprise at least one object detector 19, the recalled in the preamble of this description, the operation of which is based on example on one of the following physical phenomena: reception of electromagnetic waves reflected on given materials, magnetic radiation, light waves visible or not, sound waves.
- the device also comprises means 3 for linking these object detection means 1 to a first part 4 of the body of the person, and means 5 to convert the signal of detection in a functional electrical stimulation signal of a second part 6 of the body of this same person.
- the means 3 for linking the object detection means at a first part 4 of the body of the person are constituted by a shoe 10, the first part 4 of the body being in this case, the foot of the person able to be slipped into this shoe, the object detector 19 being secured to the shoe 10 being for example embedded or enclosed, as shown in Figure 1, in its sole 11.
- the means 3 for linking the object detection means 1 to a first part of the body of the said person may also consist of at least one bracelet adapted to be worn around a member of the person, the object detector 19 being then attached to the bracelet.
- the bracelet can be placed around an ankle of the user of the device according to the invention, or around one of his wrists when he must advance for example on all fours or crawling.
- the means 5 for converting the detection signal obtained at the output 2 of the means for detecting objects 1 into a functional electrical stimulation signal of a second part 6 of the same person's body they may consist of different manners.
- this functional electrical stimulation signal will be a signal of stimulation applied at the level of muscular nerve points and muscles to be contracted, by example between a nerve point of the body of the person linked to one or more muscles and a motor point of these muscles, as described below.
- the means 5 can then be advantageously constituted by a converter 12 of the detection signal into an electrical signal of a given intensity, and two electrodes 13, 14 connected to the output 15 of the converter 12, these two electrodes being shaped to be applied on the second part 6 of the body of the person who must receive the signal from functional electrical stimulation.
- These two electrodes are located on the skin, so that they are preferably proximity respectively of the nervous trunk bound to a muscle and a motor point of this muscle.
- Electrodes are for example of the type used by doctors for performing electrocardiograms or the like, consisting of self-adhesive tablets 16 able to adhere to the skin of the human body, with substantially at their center a point of electrical conduction 17 which can be in close contact with the skin when the pellet is applied to the place of the body that must receive an electrical impulse.
- These electrodes are for example consisting of self-adhesive pellets formed from an insulating film and a conductive film able to come into contact with the skin.
- the converter 12 is shaped to deliver at its output 15 electrical pulses advantageously of a duration less than about 0.75 ms, modulated at a frequency between 1 and 100 Hz and intensity between about 0.5 and 100mA.
- the two electrodes 13, 14 have been shown in Figure 1, arranged in two possible locations of the human body.
- these electrodes 13, 14 are placed in cooperation with the biceps of a arm as described above.
- the object detection cone 21 of the object detector 19 scans the part of the path on which person should rest his foot.
- the means of detection of objects 1 deliver to their output 2 a detection signal which is processed by the converter 12 into a stimulation signal functional electric which is applied via the electrodes 13, 14 to a muscle of the leg.
- This muscle stimulation results in an automatic retreat of the user's foot with a response time that has been measured between twenty and forty milliseconds, a gain of time with respect to the response time with the devices of the prior art greater than fifty percent, which is considerable in the case of application to the detection of explosive mines.
- the device according to the invention may advantageously present one of the two configurations which are schematically represented in FIGS. 2 and 3, respectively.
- the object detection means 1 comprise two object detectors 31, 32 of the same type as the object detector 19 in the embodiment in relation to FIG. 1.
- the means 3 for linking the object detection means 1 to a first part of the body of the person are constituted by two shoes suitable to be worn by this nobody, the two object detectors 31, 32 being respectively integral with these two shoes, for example by being drowned or wrapped in the soles.
- the means 5 for converting the signal of detection in a functional electrical stimulation signal of a second part 6 of the body of the person have two functional electrical stimulation lines 33, 34 each consisting of at least one signal converter 12 and means for applying the signals delivered at the output of the converter to the second part 6 of the body of the person, the input of each converter constituting the input of each electrical stimulation line functional, the inputs 67, 68 of the two functional electrical stimulation lines 33, 34 being respectively connected to the outputs 51, 52 of the two object detectors 31, 32.
- means for applying the signals delivered at the output of each converter to the second part 6 of the body of the person are constituted, for example, by two electrodes 13, 14 as mentioned before, each pair of electrodes being for example applied to the leg corresponding to the foot that carries the shoe with the detector associated with it.
- the device furthermore comprises means 30 for detecting the movement of each foot of the person relative to the ground and means for controlling the two object detectors 31, 32 according to the movement feet.
- These means 30 are constituted for example by sensors 35, 36 able to deliver to their respective output 37, 38 signals representative of the state of movement of each foot compared to the ground.
- These sensors 35, 36 can be constituted in different ways.
- they may be constituted by strain gauges mounted in cooperation with each shoe, and arranged to deliver at their output a signal as soon as the shoe leaves the ground, the operation of these gauges being for example based on the pressure exerted on the sole of the shoe when the person is standing and his foot is resting on the ground.
- strain gauges mounted in cooperation with each shoe, and arranged to deliver at their output a signal as soon as the shoe leaves the ground, the operation of these gauges being for example based on the pressure exerted on the sole of the shoe when the person is standing and his foot is resting on the ground.
- These means 30 for detecting the movement of the two feet with respect to the ground further comprise a control member 39 receiving on two inputs 40, 41 the signals delivered to the outputs 37, 38 of the motion sensors 35, 36 respectively.
- control is arranged to deliver on two outputs 42, 43 signals representative of the state movement of the two feet, these two outputs 42, 43 being respectively connected to the control inputs 44, 45 respectively of the two object detectors 31, 32 and possibly, if necessary, to the control inputs 46, 47 respectively of the two functional electrical stimulation lines 33, 34.
- these inputs of control are the control inputs of the two converters 12.
- the controller 39 is arranged to study the signals delivered at the output of each motion sensor 35, 36 and output control signals to its two outputs 42, 43 connected respectively at the control inputs 44, 45 of the two object detectors 31, 32, so that during the walk of the person on the way, said control signals interrupt the operation of the object detector 31, 32 which is associated with the shoe which rests on the path and maintain in operation the object detector that is associated with the shoe which is raised.
- This device has been described with two detectors respectively associated with both feet of the person by means of his shoes, but it is possible to implement another embodiment of the device, in which the two detectors are respectively associated to two members of this person by means of two bracelets.
- the device illustrated in FIG. 2 operates as follows:
- the device according to FIG. 2 It functions as a whole like the device shown in Figure 1 but, from fact that it comprises two object detectors 31, 32 associated respectively with the two feet of the person, his performances are superior to those of the device according to FIG. Indeed, the device according to FIG. 2 is able to detect the presence of an object whenever the no one advances one foot in front of the other, no matter what foot. It therefore makes it possible to use object detectors with very small apex angle detection cones and so more sensitive.
- the two sensors of movement 35, 36 respectively associated with its two feet deliver at their output signals which control, via the control member 39, the alternative interruption of operation object detectors.
- the object detectors function alternately as and when as the person advances step by step. Each object detector only works when the foot is moving.
- FIG. 3 is identical in principle to that which is illustrated in Figure 2.
- the means 5 for converting the signal of detection into a functional electrical stimulation signal of a second part of the body of the person have a single functional electrical stimulation line 50 of a structure identical to that of lines 33, 34 described above, but in addition inverter switch 53 interposed between the input 57 of the electrical stimulation line 50 and the outputs 51, 52 respectively of the two object detectors 31, 32.
- This inverter switch 53 comprises two supply inputs 55, 56, an output 58 and a switching inverting command input 54. Its two inputs 55, 56 are respectively connected to the respective outputs 51, 52 of the detectors of objects 31, 32, its output 58 is connected to the input 57 of the electrical stimulation line functional 50.
- These means 5 further comprise means 60 for controlling the tilting of the inverter switch 53, as explained below.
- the functional electrical stimulation line 50 therefore comprises only two electrodes 13, 14 positioned in one place of a second part 6 of the body of the person, for example on an arm as shown in part A of Figure 1, this line of functional electrical stimulation 50 being connected to the object detector 31, 32 which operates, that is to say the detector associated with the shoe that does not rest on the ground.
- the electrical stimulation line functional is alternately connected to one and the other of the two detectors.
- the output 70 of the converter 12 is connected to two groups 71, 72 of two electrodes 13, 14 by means of a second inverter 73 whose control input 74 is connected to the output 93 of the command 39.
- This embodiment is more particularly represented in dashed lines on In this way, each group of two electrodes is associated with a leg of the user of the device according to the invention and, alone, are stimulated the muscles of the leg of which the object detector is activated and detects an object.
- This embodiment is advantageous because, when the muscles of one leg are stimulated, the other leg receives no stimulation, this which allows the person to stop his progress freely.
- This last embodiment according to FIG. 3 has the advantage of being lighter than that according to Figure 2.
- the device according to the invention further comprises means autonomous power supply and other peripheral elements that are usually associated with this type of device, for example displays, housings waterproof, etc. These elements are well known to those skilled in the art and therefore will not be explicitly described here.
