Abstract
Description
The invention relates to a hair dryer with a housing which has an air inlet opening and an air outlet opening for an air flow, a fan and a heater being arranged in the housing and a filter element being associated with the air inlet opening.
Such a hair dryer from the applicant has long been on the market under the type designation PFV 1600. These devices have proven themselves in practical use, not least because of the filter element arranged in the air inlet opening, which removes the sucked-in air from foreign particles, such as. e.g. Hair, freed, is due. The filter element can be easily changed or cleaned using a removable air inlet grille.
However, it has also been shown that a part of the users of such hair dryers, out of ignorance or carelessness, tends not to change or clean the filter element from time to time. The result of this is that the air throughput required for adequate cooling of the heating of the hair dryer is inadmissibly reduced over time as the degree of contamination of the filter element increases. In extreme cases, this can lead to inoperability or damage to the hair dryer.
The invention is therefore based on the object of developing a hair dryer of the known type in such a way that impermissibly heavy contamination or clogging of the filter element is avoided.
This object is achieved by a hairdryer with the features of claim 1. The fact that detection means are provided in the housing, which generate an output signal that is dependent on at least one temperature in the housing and to which a signal device is assigned, which can be actuated when a predefinable threshold value level of the output signal is reached, advantageously becomes abnormal if one is present high temperature in the hairdryer housing or due to a blockage of the filter element actuated a signaling device. Since the detection means react to the actual internal temperature of the housing, the output signal is independent of the respectively set air or heating level, so that fluctuations in the mains voltage are also compensated for. If the hair dryer is operated at low air or heating levels or the mains voltage drops below the nominal voltage, the internal temperatures are lower with the same degree of contamination of the filter element and are therefore no longer critical. The signaling device is also not operated in this case. The signaling device is only actuated when the degree of soiling rises so much that the temperatures reach impermissibly high values. The reverse effect occurs when the supply voltages are too high. In this case, a degree of contamination, which is lower than that at the nominal voltage, is sufficient to bring about inadmissibly high interior temperatures, so that the signaling device is actuated accordingly earlier.
A particularly advantageous embodiment consists in the detection means having a temperature sensor, in particular a PTC element. The resistance of this temperature sensor or PTC element depends on the respective ambient temperature. The change in the resistance of the PTC element or temperature sensor or the voltage drop occurring at this element can easily be used as an output signal and can be used to actuate the signaling device when a certain preset threshold value is exceeded or undershot. Optical signal elements, such as light-emitting diodes or glow lamps, or acoustic signal elements are preferably used as the signaling device.
In a special embodiment of the invention, the detection means are assigned to the heating of the hair dryer and in particular attached to a heating support.
In a further embodiment of the invention, the detection means are designed as a series connection of a series resistor and a PTC element, to which an optical signal element, in particular a glow lamp, is connected in parallel. The threshold value at which the signal element signals impermissibly high temperatures can be set by appropriately selecting the dimensioning of the common series resistor, the type of glow lamp and the characteristic of the PTC element. At permissible ambient temperatures, the PTC element has a relatively low resistance, so that the voltage applied to the glow lamp is not sufficient to ignite the glow lamp. However, if the ambient temperature assumes impermissibly high values, the resistance of the PTC element changes to high-resistance values, so that the voltage applied to the glow lamp increases and causes it to light up. The respective switching point depends on the special dimensioning of the elements and is at the discretion of the responsible specialist.
In another embodiment of the invention, in which the hair dryer is provided with a thermal switch which switches off the electrical supply to the hair dryer when a predetermined limit temperature of the heating is exceeded, the threshold value level for the signaling device is set below Limit temperature values set. This advantageously prevents the thermal switch from switching off the hairdryer when the limit temperature is reached, without the user having been informed beforehand by the signaling device of the excessive degree of contamination of the filter element.
The embodiment according to the invention proves to be extremely advantageous to arrange the detection means in a section of the housing in the region of the fan. In this case, the air flowing past cools the temperature sensor, which is heated, for example, by means of a separate heater. Surprisingly, the separate heater or the temperature sensor experiences a stronger cooling in the case of a dirty filter element than in the case of unpurified filter elements. This is apparently due to the fact that an extremely strong vortex formation occurs in the area of the suction side of the hair dryer when the flow resistance on the air inlet side exceeds certain values. Due to this effect of a strong change in the flow conditions, an accurate detection of the degree of contamination of the filter element is possible.
In an advantageous development of the invention, the detection means are arranged in a section of the housing between the filter element and the blower, in particular the fan wheel. As the experimental investigations show, the flow change is particularly noticeable due to a dirty filter element in this housing section and is therefore easier to detect by means of the detection device.
In an advantageous development of the invention, the detection means are formed from a heating element and a temperature sensor, which are thermally coupled to one another. The sensitivity of the detection means is significantly increased by assigning a separate heater to the temperature sensor.
A particularly favorable embodiment of the invention results from the fact that the heating element and the temperature sensor are each designed as a PTC element and are directly attached to one another or connected to one another, a signal element being connected in series with the temperature sensor. If the heating and thus also the temperature sensor is cooled more strongly due to eddy formation in the section assigned to the blower than if an uncleaned filter element is present, the resistance of the temperature sensor designed as a PTC element drops, as a result of which an increased current can flow through it and a signal element, for example puts a light emitting diode or an acoustic warning device, for example a piezo buzzer, into operation.
The fact that integration means are assigned to the detection means, which hide the output signals which would only bring about a brief actuation of the signaling device, does not indicate that there is only an impermissible operating state of the hair dryer for a short time. Such situations can occur briefly, for example, when switching from one blower stage to the other, when the hair dryer is switched on or when the heating level is changed, without this being attributable to the filter element being too dirty. Such short-term conditions are normal and should not be indicated to the user by the flickering of the signal lamp or by the signal device briefly sounding. The integration means ensure that these signals are masked out, the integration time constant preferably being in the range between 0.25 and 5 minutes.

Detection means 32 and optionally a
The
As an alternative arrangement to the detection means 32 in the area of the
The detection means 32 of FIG. 2a has a
The
In the embodiment of FIG. 2 b, the detection means 34, which is arranged in the housing section between the
In the normal case, the
Both configurations of FIGS. 2a, 2b have in common that an integration means 60 can be assigned to the detection means 32, 34, which fades out output signals of the
