Claims (6)
- A method of atomising a liquid by way of at least one auxiliary fluid, such as a gas, said method comprising the use of:- an annular flow of said liquid,- an annular flow of a primary gas,- an annular flow of a secondary gas, identical to or different from the preceding one,said method comprising:a) directing the flow of liquid inside said flow of primary gas in the outflow direction of the latter,b) forming a thin annular film of liquid by directing the coaxial flows of liquid and primary gas along the periphery of a ring, one of the free ends of which is shaped to form an edge,c) atomising the liquid at the end of said edge by the combined action of said flow of primary gas and the flow of secondary gas flowing inside the ring in the same direction as said flow of liquid and said flow of primary gas,said method being characterised in that the ratio of the total mass of gas in relation to the total mass of liquid is lower than 0.5.
- A method according to claim 1, characterised in that the velocities of the flows of primary and secondary gas are sonic at the level of the edge.
- A device for atomising a flow of liquid by way of at least one auxiliary fluid, such as a gas, for carrying out the method according to claim 1, by providing:- an annular flow of said liquid,- an annular flow of a primary gas,- an annular flow of a secondary gas, identical or not to the preceding one,of the type comprising:a) at least one inlet duct (24) of said liquid into a first annular passage (27) for liquid,b) at least one inlet duct (14) of said primary gas into a second annular passage (38) for primary gas,c) at least one inlet duct (19) of said secondary gas into a third annular passage (23′) for secondary gas, the outlets of the annular passages being arranged from the outside to the inside of the device in such a way that the outlet of the first passage (27) and the outlet of the second passage (38) open jointly into a fourth annular passage (30) which directs the mixture of liquid and primary gas to the outlet of the third passage (23′), the mixture of liquid and primary and secondary gases being directed to the exterior of the device through a fifth annular passage (33), the inner wall of the fourth annular passage (30) being shaped in the form of an edge,said device being characterised in that it comprises the following elements, fitted one inside the other:- an outer body (2),- a main cylindrical tube (3) for supplying gas,- a central injector body (4),- a peripheral gas distributor (5),- a nozzle (7),- a fastening means (8).
- A device according to claim 3, characterised in that it also comprises a part in the form of a venturi (50) disposed in the main cylindrical tube (3) for supplying gas (3).
- Use of the method according to either of claims 1 or 2 or of the device according to either of claims 3 and 4 for the atomisation of liquid fuels, in particular heavy viscous fuels, for the purpose of their combustion.
- Use of the method according to either of claims 1 or 2 or of the device according to either of claims 3 and 4 for the atomisation of the charge of a catalytic cracking unit.
