  • TECHNISCHES GEBIET DER ERFINDUNG
  • Diese Erfindung bezieht sich allgemein auf Netzwerk-Speichergeräte und genauer auf eine Speicherungssteuerung und ein Verfahren zum Liefern virtueller Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen.
  • HINTERGRUND DER ERFINDUNG
  • Bei typischen Speichertransportmedien ist vorgesehen, dass eine relativ kleine Anzahl von Geräten über relativ kurze Entfernungen anzuhängen sind. Ein derartiges Transportmedium ist ein Protokoll des Schnittstellensystems für kleine Computer (SCSI-Protokoll), dessen Struktur und Bedienung allgemein hinlänglich bekannt sind, wie z. B. in den Spezifikationen SCSI-1, SCSI-2 und SCSI-3 beschrieben. Serielle Hochgeschwindigkeitsverbindungen stellen eine verbesserte Möglichkeit zum Anhängen einer großen Anzahl von Hochgeschwindigkeitsvorrichtungen an ein allgemeines Speichertransportmedium über große Entfernungen bereit. Eine solche serielle Verbindung ist der Glasfaserkanal, dessen Struktur und Bedienung z. B. in "Fibre Channel Physical and Signaling Interface (FC-PH)", ANSI X3.230 "Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop (FC-AL)" und ANSI X3.272 "Fibre Channel Private Loop Direct Attach (FC-PLDA)" beschrieben sind.
  • Konventionelle Rechengeräte wie Computer-Arbeitsstationen greifen i. A. lokal oder durch Netzwerkverbindungen auf einen Speicher zu. Der örtliche Speicher besteht typischerweise aus einem Diskettenlaufwerk, einer Bandstation, einem CD-ROM-Laufwerk oder einer anderen in der Arbeitsstation enthaltenen oder lokal daran angeschlossenen Speichervorrichtung. Die Arbeitsstation stellt eine Dateisystemstruktur bereit, die Sicherheitssteuerungen mit Zugriff auf die Lokalspeichervorrichtung über systemeigene, einfache Blockprotokolle einschließt. Diese Protokolle bilden direkt auf die von der Speichervorrichtung verwendeten Schaltwerke ab und bestehen aus Datenanforderungen ohne Sicherheitssteuerungen. Netzwerkverbindungen liefern typischerweise Zugriff für eine große Anzahl von Rechengeräten auf Datenspeicher auf einer entfernten Netz-Diensteinheit (Server). Die entfernte Netz-Diensteinheit liefert Dateisystemstruktur, Zugriffssteuerung und andere vielseitige Leistungen, einschließlich der Netzschnittstelle. Der Zugriff auf Daten durch die Netz-Diensteinheit erfolgt durch Netzprotokolle, die der Server in einfache Anforderungen an die Speichervorrichtung übersetzen muss. Eine Arbeitsstation mit Zugriff auf den Serverspeicher muss ihre Dateisystemprotokolle in Netzprotokolle übersetzen, die zur Kommunikation mit dem Server verwendet werden. Folglich ist der Zugriff aus der Perspektive einer Arbeitsstation oder einem anderen Rechengerät, die Zugriff auf solche Serverdaten suchen, viel langsamer als der Zugriff auf Daten auf einer lokalen Speichervorrichtung.
  • US-A-5 163 131 offenbart ein herkömmliches System gemäß dem Oberbegriff des Anspruches 1 zum Zugreifen auf Daten über eine Netz-Diensteinheit (Server), die eine Dateisystemstruktur für Datenoperationen bereitstellt. In diesem System müssen auf dem Dateisystem basierende Datenübertragungen in physische Form übersetzt werden, und es ist eine Umsetzung in eingeteilte Protokolle erforderlich, wie oben erörtert.
  • Es ist eine Aufgabe der vorliegenden Erfindung, die obigen Nachteile zu beseitigen und eine Speicherungssteuerung und ein Verfahren zum Liefern von virtueller Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen bereitzustellen sowie ein Speichernetzwerk bereitzustellen, das eine solche Speicherungssteuerung umfasst, die ein verbessertes Datenzugriffsverhalten bereitstellt.
  • Diese Aufgabe wird gelöst durch eine Speicherungssteuerung gemäß dem Patentanspruch 1, ein Speichernetzwerk gemäß Anspruch 7 bzw. ein Verfahren gemäß Anspruch 9. Vorteilhafte Ausführungsformen der Erfindung sind Gegenstand der abhängigen Ansprüche.
  • WESEN DER ERFINDUNG
  • In Übereinstimmung mit der vorliegenden Erfindung werden eine Speicherungssteuerung und ein Verfahren zum Liefern von virtueller Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen offenbart, die Vorteile gegenüber konventionellen Netzwerk-Speichergeräten und Verfahren bereitstellen.
  • Gemäß einem Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung liefern eine Speicherungssteuerung und ein Speichernetzwerk virtuelle Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen. Eine Vielzahl von Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen, wie z. B. Arbeitsstationen, ist an ein Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium angeschlossen, und eine Vielzahl von SCSI-Speichergeräten ist an ein SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium angeschlossen. Die Speicherungssteuerung verbindet zwischen dem Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium und dem SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium. Die Speicherungssteuerung bildet zwischen den Arbeitsstationen und den SCSI-Speichergeräten ab und implementiert Zugriffssteuerungen für Speicherraum auf den SCSI-Speichergeräten. Die Speicherungssteuerung erlaubt dann den Zugriff von den Arbeitsstationen auf die SCSI-Speichergeräte unter Verwendung des systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokolls in Übereinstimmung mit der Abbildung und den Zugriffssteuerungen.
  • Gemäß einem anderen Aspekt der vorliegenden Erfindung wird virtuelle Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen geliefert. Damit sind ein Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium und ein SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium verbunden. Es wird eine Konfiguration für SCSI-Speichergeräte unterhalten, die an das SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium angeschlossen sind. Die Konfiguration bildet zwischen Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen und den SCSI-Speichergeräten ab und implementiert Zugriffssteuerungen für Speicherraum auf den SCSI-Speichergeräten. Der Zugriff wird dann unter Verwendung des systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokolls in Übereinstimmung mit der Konfiguration von Glasfaserkanal-Initiatorvorrichtungen zu SCSI-Speichergeräten zugelassen.
  • Ein technischer Vorteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist die Eignung zum Zentralisieren der Lokalspeicherung für vernetzte Arbeitsstationen, ohne auf Kosten der Geschwindigkeit oder Gemeinkosten zu gehen. Jede Arbeitsstation greift auf seinen virtuellen Lokalspeicher zu, als ob sie örtlich verbunden wäre. Ferner können die zentralisierten Speichervorrichtungen an einer deutlich entfernten Stelle sogar weiter als zehn Kilometer weg liegen, wie durch Glasfaserkanal-Standards definiert.
  • Ein anderer technischer Vorteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist die Eignung zum zentralen Steuern und Verwalten des Speicherraums für angeschlossene Benutzer, ohne die Geschwindigkeit zu beschränken, mit der die Benutzer auf lokale Daten zugreifen können. Darüber hinaus können globaler Zugriff auf Daten, Sicherungen, Virenerkennung und Redundanz durch zentral gelegene Speichervorrichtungen leichter bewerkstelligt werden.
  • Ein weiterer technischer Vorteil der vorliegenden Erfindung ist die Bereitstellung der Unterstützung für SCSI-Speichergeräte als Lokalspeicher für Glasfaserkanal-Hosts. Darüber hinaus hilft die vorliegende Erfindung bei der Bereitstellung erweiterter Glasfaserkanal- und Verwaltungsmöglichkeiten für Speicheruntersysteme.
  • KURZBESCHREIBUNG DER ZEICHNUNGEN
  • Ein umfassenderes Verständnis der vorliegenden Erfindung und deren Vorteile kann durch Bezugnahme auf die folgende Beschreibung in Verbindung mit den begleitenden Zeichnungen erlangt werden, in denen gleiche Bezugszeichen gleiche Merkmale andeuten und wobei:

  • DETAILLIERTE BESCHREIBUNG DER ERFINDUNG
  • 1 ist ein Blockdiagramm eines konventionellen Netzwerks, allgemein mit 10 angedeutet, das Zugriff auf die Speicherung mit Hilfe einer Netz-Diensteinheit bereitstellt. Wie gezeigt, schließt das Netzwerk 10 eine Vielzahl von Arbeitsstationen 12 ein, die über ein Netzwerk-Transportmedium 16 mit einer Netz-Diensteinheit (Server) 14 verbunden sind. Jede Arbeitsstation 12 kann allgemein einen Prozessor, einen Arbeitsspeicher, Ein-Ausgabe-Geräte, Speichervorrichtungen und einen Netzadapter sowie andere allgemeine Computerkomponenten einschließen. Die Netz-Diensteinheit 14 verwendet einen SCSI-Bus 18 als Speichertransportmedium zur Verbindung mit einer Vielzahl von Speichervorrichtungen 20 (Bandstationen, Diskettenlaufwerke etc.). In der Ausführungsform gemäß 1 ist das Netzwerk-Transportmedium 16 eine Netzwerkverbindung, und Speichervorrichtungen 20 umfassen Festplattenlaufwerke, obwohl es zahlreiche alternative Transportmedien und Speichervorrichtungen gibt.
  • Im Netzwerk 10 hat jede Arbeitsstation 12 Zugriff auf ihre Lokalspeichervorrichtung sowie Netzwerkzugriff auf Daten auf den Speichervorrichtungen 20. Der Zugriff auf eine Lokalspeichervorrichtung erfolgt typischerweise mit Hilfe systemeigener, einfacher Blockprotokolle. Andererseits erfordert der Zugriff einer Arbeitsstation 12 auf Speichervorrichtungen 20 die Beteiligung der Netz-Diensteinheit 14, die ein Dateisystem implementiert und Daten zu Arbeitsstationen 12 nur mit Hilfe höherer Dateisystemprotokolle überträgt. Nur die Netz-Diensteinheit 14 kommuniziert mit den Speichervorrichtungen 20 über systemeigene, einfache Blockprotokolle. Folglich ist der Netzwerkzugriff von Arbeitsstationen 12 mit Hilfe des Servers 14 hinsichtlich deren Zugriff auf die Lokalspeicherung langsam. Im Netzwerk 10 kann es ferner ein logistisches Problem sein, über eine Organisation verteilte lokale Daten einschließlich der Erfüllung von Aufgaben wie Sicherungen, Virenerkennung und Redundanz zentral zu leiten und verwalten.
  • 2 ist ein Blockdiagramm einer Ausführungsform eines allgemein mit 30 angedeuteten Speichernetzwerks mit einer Speicherungssteuerung, die globalen Zugriff und Leitweglenkung bereitstellt. Diese Umgebung unterscheidet sich erheblich von derjenigen gemäß 1, weil hier keine Netz-Diensteinheit involviert ist. In 2 verbindet ein serieller Glasfaserkanal-Hochgeschwindigkeitstransport 32 eine Vielzahl von Arbeitsstationen 36 und Speichervorrichtungen 38 miteinander. Ein SCSI-Bus-Speichertransportmedium verbindet Arbeitsstationen 40 und Speichervorrichtungen 42 miteinander. Eine Speicherungssteuerung 44 dient dann dazu, diese Medien miteinander zu verbinden und Vorrichtungen auf dem einen Medium globalen, transparenten Zugriff auf Vorrichtungen auf dem anderen Medium zur Verfügung zu stellen. Die Speicherungssteuerung 44 leitet Anforderungen von Initiatorvorrichtungen auf dem einen Medium zu Zielvorrichtungen auf dem anderen Medium und sendet Daten zwischen dem Ziel und dem Initiator. Die Speicherungssteuerung 44 kann Initiatoren und Ziele auf beiden Seiten zulassen. Auf diese Art und Weise erhöht die Speicherungssteuerung 44 die Funktionsvielfalt des Glasfaserkanals 32 durch Bereitstellen eines Zugriffs auf beispielsweise die Vermächtnis-SCSI-Speichervorrichtungen auf dem SCSI-Bus 34. In der Ausführungsform gemäß 2 kann der Betrieb der Speicherungssteuerung 44 durch eine Führungsstation 46 geleitet werden, die über eine direkte serielle Verbindung an die Speicherungssteuerung angeschlossen ist.
  • Im Speichernetzwerk 30 kann jede Arbeitsstation 36 oder Arbeitsstation 40 mit Hilfe systemeigener, einfacher Blockprotokolle auf jede Speichervorrichtung 38 oder Speichervorrichtung 42 zugreifen und umgekehrt. Diese Funktionsvielfalt wird durch die Speicherungssteuerung 44 ermöglicht, die Anfragen und Daten als auswählbaren Transport zwischen dem Glasfaserkanal 32 und dem SCSI-Bus 34 sendet. Die Speicherungssteuerung 44 verwendet Tabellen zum Abbilden von Vorrichtungen von einem Medium zum anderen und verteilt Anfragen und Daten über den Glasfaserkanal 32 und SCSI-Bus 34 ohne jegliche Sicherheitszugriffssteuerungen. Obwohl diese vom Glasfaserkanal 32 bereitgestellte Erweiterung der seriellen Hochgeschwindigkeitsverbindung von Vorteil ist, ist es wünschenswert, zusätzlich zu dem erweiterten Zugang zu den Speichervorrichtungen mit Hilfe eines systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokolls Sicherheitssteuerungen vorzusehen.
  • 3 ist ein Blockdiagramm einer Ausführungsform eines Speichernetzwerks, allgemein mit 50 angedeutet, mit einer Speicherungssteuerung, die virtuelle Lokalspeicherung bereitstellt. Ähnlich wie in 2 schließt das Speichernetzwerk 50 eine serielle Glasfaserkanal-Hochgeschwindigkeitsverbindung 52 und einen SCSI-Bus 54 ein, die durch eine Speicherungssteuerung 56 überbrückt sind. Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 gemäß 3 sorgt dafür, dass eine große Anzahl von Arbeitsstationen 58 auf einem allgemeinen Speichertransport miteinander verbunden wird und mit Hilfe systemeigener, einfacher Blockprotokolle auf allgemeine Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 zugreift.
  • Gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung weist die Speicherungssteuerung 56 die verbesserte Funktionsvielfalt zur Implementierung von Sicherheitssteuerungen und Leitweglenkung auf, so dass jede Arbeitsstation 58 Zugriff auf eine spezifische Untermenge der in den Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 gespeicherten Gesamtdaten nehmen kann. Diese spezifische Datenuntermenge weist Erscheinungsbild und Merkmale der Lokalspeicherung auf und wird hierin als virtuelle Lokalspeicherung bezeichnet. Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 ermöglicht Konfiguration und Modifikation des jeder angehängten Arbeitsstation 58 zugeordneten Speichers mit Hilfe der Verwendung von Konvertierungstabellen oder anderen Abbildungstechniken.
  • Wie beispielsweise in 3 gezeigt, kann die Speichervorrichtung 60 so konfiguriert sein, dass sie globale Daten 65 bereitstellt, auf die von allen Arbeitsstationen 58 zugegriffen werden kann. Die Speichervorrichtung 62 kann so konfiguriert sein, dass sie unterteilte Untermengen 66, 68, 70 und 72 bereitstellt, wo jede Speicherzone einer der Arbeitsstationen 58 zugeordnet ist (Arbeitsstationen A, B, C und D). Auf diese Untermengen 66, 68, 70 und 72 kann nur durch die zugeordnete Arbeitsstation 58 zugegriffen werden, und sie erscheinen der zugeordneten Arbeitsstation 58 als Lokalspeicher, auf den unter Verwendung von systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokollen zugegriffen wird. In ähnlicher Weise kann die Speichervorrichtung 64 als Speicher für die verbleibende Arbeitsstation 58 zugeordnet sein (Arbeitsstation E).
  • Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 kombiniert Zugriffssteuerung mit Leitweglenkung, so dass jede Arbeitsstation 58 gesteuerten Zugriff auf nur die spezifizierte Speicherzone der Speichervorrichtung 62 hat, die den virtuellen Lokalspeicher für die Arbeitsstation bildet. Diese Zugriffssteuerung erlaubt die Sicherheitssteuerung für die spezifizierten Datenspeicherzonen. Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 gestattet die Handhabung dieser Zuweisung von Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 durch eine Führungsstation 76. Die Führungsstation 76 kann über einen Direktanschluss direkt an die Speicherungssteuerung 56 anschließen oder alternativ entweder mit Hilfe des Glasfaserkanals 52 oder des SCSI-Busses 54 an die Speicherungssteuerung 56 anbinden. Im letzteren Fall kann die Führungsstation 76 eine Arbeitsstation oder anderes Rechengerät mit besonderen Rechten sein, so dass die Speicherungssteuerung 56 Zugang zu Konvertierungstabellen zulässt und die Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 bevorzugt so zeigt, wie sie physisch vorhanden sind, als wie sie zugeordnet worden sind.
  • Die Umgebung von 3 dehnt das Konzept einer einzelnen Arbeitsstation mit lokal verbundenen Speichervorrichtungen auf ein Speichernetzwerk 50 aus, in dem den Arbeitsstationen 58 auf für sie transparente Art und Weise eine virtuelle Lokalspeicherung bereitgestellt wird. Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 sorgt für eine zentralisierte Steuerung dessen, was jede Arbeitsstation 58 als ihr örtliches Laufwerk ansieht sowie dessen, welche Daten sie als globale Daten ansieht, auf welche andere Arbeitsstationen 58 zugreifen können. Folglich ist der von der Arbeitsstation 58 als ihr Lokalspeicher betrachtete Speicherraum tatsächlich eine mit Hilfe der Speicherungssteuerung 56 angeschlossene Speicherzone (d. h. logische Speicherdefinition) eines physisch entfernten Speichergerätes 60, 62 oder 64. Dies bedeutet, dass ähnliche Anfragen von Arbeitsstationen 58 um Zugriff auf ihre Lokalspeichervorrichtungen unterschiedliche Zugriffe auf den Speicherraum auf den Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 erzeugen. Ferner wird kein Zugriff von einer Arbeitsstation 58 auf den virtuellen Lokalspeicher einer anderen Arbeitsstation 58 zugelassen.
  • Die durch die Speichervorrichtungen 60, 62 und 64 bereitgestellte Kollektivspeicherung kann durch Programmiermittel innerhalb der Speicherungssteuerung 56 zugeordnete Blöcke aufweisen. Um diese Funktion zu erfüllen, kann die Speicherungssteuerung 56 Leitwerklenkungstabellen und Sicherheitssteuerungen einschließen, welche die Speicherzuweisung für jede Arbeitsstation 58 definieren. Zu den Vorteilen, die durch Implementieren der virtuellen Lokalspeicherung in zentralisierten Speichervorrichtungen bereitgestellt werden, gehört die Eignung zur leichteren Durchführung kollektiver Sicherungen und anderer kollektiver Verwaltungsfunktionen. Dies wird bewerkstelligt, ohne die Leistung der Arbeitsstationen 58 einzuschränken, weil der Speicherzugriff systemeigene, einfache Blockprotokolle einbindet und nicht den Aufwand höherer Protokolle und Dateisysteme involviert, die bei Netz-Diensteinheiten erforderlich sind.
  • 4 ist ein Blockdiagramm einer Ausführungsform der Speicherungssteuerung 56 gemäß 3. Die Speicherungssteuerung 56 kann eine Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit 80 mit einer Schnittstelle zum Glasfaserkanal 52 und eine SCSI-Steuereinheit 82 mit einer Schnittstelle zum SCSI-Bus 54 umfassen. Ein Puffer 84 stellt Speicherarbeitsraum bereit und ist sowohl an die Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit 80 als auch die SCSI-Steuereinheit 82 angeschlossen. Eine Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit 86 ist an die Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit 80, die SCSI-Steuereinheit 82 und den Puffer 84 angeschlossen. Die Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit 86 umfasst einen Mikroprozessor zur Steuerung der Bedienung der Speicherungssteuerung 56 und Handhabung der Konvertierung und des Sicherheitszugriffs für Abfragen zwischen dem Glasfaserkanal 52 und dem SCSI-Bus 54.
  • 5 ist ein Blockdiagramm einer Ausführungsform des Datenflusses innerhalb der Speicherungssteuerung 56 gemäß 4. Wie gezeigt, werden aus dem Glasfaserkanal 52 kommende Daten von einer Glasfaserkanal-(FC-)Protokolleinheit 88 verarbeitet und in einer FIFO-Warteschlange platziert. Eine Arbeitsspeicher-Direktzugriff-(DMA-)Schnittstelle 92 entnimmt dann die Daten aus der FIFO-Warteschlange 90 und platziert sie im Puffer 84. Die Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit 86 verarbeitet die Daten im Puffer 84, wie durch die Hauptsteuerprogramm-Verarbeitung 93 dargestellt. Diese Verarbeitung bindet die Konvertierung zwischen dem Glasfaserkanal 52 und dem SCSI-Bus 54 und die Anwendung von Zugriffssteuerungen und Leitweglenkungsfunktionen ein. Eine DMA-Schnittstelle 94 zieht dann die Daten aus dem Puffer 84 und platziert sie in einem Puffer 96. Eine SCSI-Protokolleinheit 98 zieht die Daten aus dem Puffer 96 und überträgt die Daten auf dem SCSI-Bus 54. Ein Datenfluss in umgekehrter Richtung, vom SCSI-Bus 54 zum Glasfaserkanal 52, wird auf umgekehrte Art und Weise bewerkstelligt.
  • Die Speicherungssteuerung der vorliegenden Erfindung ist eine Brückenvorrichtung, die eine Glasfaserkanal-Verbindung direkt an einen SCSI-Bus anschließt und den Austausch von SCSI-Befehlsmengeninformationen zwischen Anwendungsrechnern auf SCSI-Bus-Vorrichtungen und den Glasfaserkanal-Verbindungen ermöglicht. Ferner wendet die Speicherungssteuerung Zugriffssteuerungen an, so dass eine virtuelle Lokalspeicherung in entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten für Arbeitsstationen auf der Glasfaserkanal-Verbindung erstellt werden können. In einer Ausführungsform stellt die Speicherungssteuerung eine Verbindung für Glasfaserkanal-Verbindungen bereit, auf denen das SCSI-Glasfaserkanal-Protokoll (FCP) zu Vermächtnis-SCSI-Geräten läuft, die an einen SCSI-Bus angehängt sind. Die Glasfaserkanal-Topologie ist typischerweise eine ausgeglichene Schleife (FC_AL).
  • Zum Teil ermöglicht die Speicherungssteuerung einen Migrationspfad zu seriellen SCSI-Netzwerken auf der Basis von Glasfaserkanälen, indem sie die Vernetzung für Vermächtnis-SCSI-Bus-Vorrichtungen bereitstellt. Die Speicherungssteuerung kann an eine ausgeglichene Glasfaserkanal-Schleife und einen SCSI-Bus angehängt sein, um eine Anzahl von SCSI-Geräten zu unterstützen. Unter Verwendung von Konfigurationseinstellungen kann die Speicherungssteuerung die SCSI-Bus-Vorrichtungen als logische FCP-Glieder auf dem Glasfaserkanal-Netzwerk verfügbar machen. Sobald die Konfiguration definiert ist, ist die Bedienung der Speicherungssteuerung für Anwendungsrechner transparent. Auf diese Art und Weise kann die Speicherungssteuerung einen integrierten Teil der Migration zu neuen, auf Glasfaserkanal basierenden Netzwerken bilden und dabei ein Mittel zur Fortsetzung unter Verwendung von Vermächtnis-SCSI-Geräten bereitstellen.
  • In einer Implementierung (nicht gezeigt) kann die Speicherungssteuerung eine rahmenmontierte oder freistehende Vorrichtung mit interner Stromversorgung sein. Die Speicherungssteuerung kann ein Glasfaserkanal und einen SCSI-Anschluss aufweisen, und es kann ein abnehmbares Standard-Anschlusskabel verwendet werden, der FC-Stecker kann ein DB9-Kupfer-Stecker sein, und der SCSI-Stecker kann einer mit 68-Stiften sein. Für den Managementzugang können zusätzliche modulare Klinken für einen seriellen Anschluss und einen 802.3-10BaseT-Anschluss, d. h. eine verdrillte Ethernet-Doppelleitung, vorgesehen sein. Der SCSI-Anschluss der Speicherungssteuerung kann SCSI-Zielvorrichtungen mit direktem und sequentiellem Zugriff unterstützen und kann ebenso SCSI-Initiatoren unterstützen. Der Glasfaserkanal-Anschluss kann an FCP-aktivierte SCSI-3-Vorrichtungen und Initiatoren anbinden.
  • Zur Erfüllung ihrer Funktionsvielfalt verwendet eine Implementierung der Speicherungssteuerung eine Glasfaserkanal-Schnittstelle basierend auf der HEWLETT-PACKARD-Steuereinheit TACHYON HPFC-5000 und einer GLM-Media-Schnittstelle, einen Intel-Prozessor 80960RP mit integrierten unabhängigen Daten- und Programmspeicherräumen und einer zugeordneten Logik, die zur Implementierung eines selbstständigen Verarbeitungssystems erforderlich ist sowie einen seriellen Anschluss für Fehlerbeseitigungs- und Systemkonfiguration. Ferner schließt diese Implementierung eine SCSI-Schnittstelle ein, die Fast-20 basierend auf den SCSI-Steuereinheiten der Serie SYMBIOS 53C8xx unterstützt, und ein Betriebssystem, das je nach Auslegung auf dem Kern WIND RIVERS SYSTEMS VXWORKS oder IXWORKS basiert. Darüber hinaus schließt die Speicherungssteuerung die erforderliche Software zur Steuerung der Basisfunktionen der verschiedenen Elemente und Bereitstellung geeigneter Übersetzungen zwischen den FC- und SCSI-Protokollen ein.
  • Die Speicherungssteuerung weist verschiedene Betriebsmodi auf, die zwischen FC- und SCSI-Ziel- und Initiatorkombinationen möglich sind. Diese Modi sind: FC-Initiator zu SCSI-Ziel, SCSI-Initiator zu FC-Ziel, SCSI-Initiator zu SCSI-Ziel und FC-Initiator zu FC-Ziel. Die ersten zwei Betriebsarten können gleichzeitig in einer einzelnen Speichersteuervorrichtung unterstützt werden, wie unten kurz erörtert. Die dritte Betriebsart kann zwei Speichersteuervorrichtungen Rücken an Rücken einbinden und in erster Linie als eine Vorrichtung dienen, um die physische Entfernung über diejenige hinaus auszudehnen, die über eine direkte SCSI-Verbindung möglich ist. Die letzte Betriebsart kann verwendet werden, um FC-Protokolle eingekapselt auf anderen Übertragungstechnologien (z. B. ATM, SONET) zu übermitteln oder als Brücke zwischen zwei FC-Schleifen zu wirken (z. B. als Struktur mit zwei Anschlüssen).
  • Die Betriebsart FC-Initiator zu SCSI-Ziel sieht vor, dass die Grundfiguration eines Servers unter Verwendung eines Glasfaserkanals mit SCSI-Zielen in Verbindung steht. Diese Betriebsart erfordert, dass ein Hostsystem eine an FC angehängte Vorrichtung und zugeordnete Gerätetreiber sowie Software zum Generieren von SCSI-3-FCP-Anforderungen aufweist. Dieses System wirkt als Initiator, der die Speicherungssteuerung verwendet, um mit SCSI-Zielvorrichtungen zu kommunizieren. Die unterstützten SCSI-Geräte können SCSI-2-bereite Vorrichtungen mit direktem oder sequentiellem Zugriff (Platte oder Band) sein. Die Speicherungssteuerung dient dazu, Steuerbefehls- und Zustandsinformationen zu übersetzen und Daten zwischen SCSI-3 FCP und SCSI-2 zu übertragen, was die Verwendung von SCSI-Standardvorrichtungen in einer Glasfaserkanal-Umgebung erlaubt.
  • Die Betriebsart SCSI-Initiator zu FC-Ziel sorgt dafür, dass die Konfiguration eines Servers SCSI-2 verwendet, um mit Glasfaserkanal-Zielen zu kommunizieren. Dieser Modus verlangt, dass ein Hostsystem eine SCSI-2-Schnittstelle und Treiber-Software zum Steuern der SCSI-2-Zielvorrichtungen aufweist. Die Speicherungssteuerung schließt dann an den SCSI-2-Bus an und antwortet als Ziel auf Mehrfachziel-IDs. Konfigurationsinformationen sind erforderlich, um die Ziel-IDs zu identifizieren, auf welche die Brücke auf dem SCSI-2-Bus antwortet. Die Speicherungssteuerung übersetzt dann die SCSI-2-Anfragen an SCSI-3-FCP-Anforderungen, was die Verwendung von FC-Vorrichtungen mit einem SCSI-Hostsystem erlaubt. Dies erlaubt es dann auch Merkmalen wie z. B. einem Bandgerät, das als Initiator auf dem SCSI-Bus wirkt, diesem SCSI-Gerätstyp volle Unterstützung zu geben.
  • Allgemein ist eine Benutzerkonfiguration der Speicherungssteuerung erforderlich, um verschiedene Funktionsbetriebsmodi zu unterstützen. Die Konfiguration kann z. B. mit Hilfe eines seriellen Anschlusses oder mit Hilfe eines Ethernet-Anschlusses über SNMP (Protokoll zum Warten von Rechnern über ein Netzwerk) oder eine TELNET-Verbindung modifiziert werden. Insbesondere kann eine SNMP-Kontrollierbarkeit über eine 802.3-Ethernet-Schnittstelle vorgesehen sein. Dies kann für Konfigurationsänderungen sorgen sowie Statistik- und Fehlerinformationen liefern. Die Konfiguration kann auch über TELNET- oder RS-232-Schnittstellen mit menügesteuerten Befehlsschnittstellen durchgeführt werden. Konfigurationsinformationen können in einem Flash-Memory-Segment gespeichert und über Rücksetzungen und Abschaltzyklen hinweg festgehalten werden. Auch Passwortschutz kann vorgesehen sein.
  • In den ersten zwei Betriebsmodi werden Adressierinformationen benötigt, um von der FC-Adressierung zur SCSI-Adressierung zu konvertieren und umgekehrt. Aufgrund der Notwendigkeit, dass Adresseninformationen über die Initialisierung und teilweise Umgestaltungen des Glasfaserkanal-Adressraums hinweg unterhalten werden, können dies 'harte' Konfigurationsdaten sein. In einer ausgeglichenen Schleifenkonfiguration werden benutzerkonfigurierte Adressen für AL_PAs benötigt, um zu gewährleisten, dass zwischen Schleifenumgestaltungen bekannte Adressen bereitgestellt werden.
  • Hinsichtlich der Adressierung verwenden die FCP- und SCSI-2-Systeme unterschiedliche Verfahren zum Adressieren von Zielvorrichtungen. Außerdem bedeutet der Einschluss einer Speicherungssteuerung, dass ein Verfahren zum Übersetzen von Geräte-IDs implementiert werden muss. Darüber hinaus kann die Speicherungssteuerung auf Steuerbefehle antworten, ohne die Steuerbefehle zur gegenüberliegenden Schnittstelle hindurchzuleiten. Dies kann implementiert werden, um alle auswählbaren FCP- und SCSI-Befehle die Speicherungssteuerung passieren zu lassen, um angehängte Vorrichtungen zu adressieren, aber die Durchführung der Konfiguration und Diagnose mit Hilfe der FC- und SCSI-Schnittstellen direkt auf der Speicherungssteuerung zu ermöglichen.
  • Management-Steuerbefehle sind solche, die von der Speicherrouter-Steuereinheit direkt verarbeitet werden sollen. Dies kann Diagnose-, Betriebsart- und Log-Befehle sowie andere verkäuferspezifische Steuerbefehle einschließen. Diese Steuerbefehle können sowohl von FCP- als auch SCSI-Schnittstellen empfangen und verarbeitet werden, werden aber nicht typischerweise zur gegenüberliegenden Schnittstelle überbrückt. Diese Steuerbefehle können ferner Nebenwirkungen auf den Betrieb der Speicherungssteuerung haben und bewirken, dass andere Speicherungssteuerungsoperationen sich ändern oder enden.
  • Ein primäres Verfahren zum Adressieren von Management-Steuerbefehlen durch die FCP- und SCSI-Schnittstellen hindurch kann ein solches mit Hilfe der Adressierung über ein Peripheriegerät sein. Zum Beispiel kann die Speicherungssteuerung auf alle an das logische Glied (LUN) Null als Steuergerät gerichteten Operationen ansprechen. Zu den Steuerbefehlen, welche die Speicherungssteuerung unterstützt, können ABFRAGE sowie verkäuferspezifische Management-Steuerbefehle gehören. Diese sollen allgemein konsistent mit SCC-Standardbefehlen sein.
  • Der SCSI-Bus ist imstande, Busverbindungen zwischen Zielen einzurichten. Diese Ziele können intern logische Glieder adressieren. Somit kann das favorisierte Adressierschema, das von SCSI-Untersystemen verwendet wird, wie folgt dargestellt werden: BUS:ZIEL:LOGIKGLIED. Die BUS-Identifikation ist in der Konfiguration spezifisch, da ein SCSI-Initiator an nur einen Bus angehängt wird. Die Zieladressierung wird durch Busentscheidung aus bereitgestellten Informationen gehandhabt, die der Entscheidungsvorrichtung zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Zieladressen werden den SCSI-Geräten über bestimmte Konfigurationsmittel, wie z. B. eine Hardware-Brücke, Schalterstellung oder gerätespezifische Software-Konfiguration, direkt zugewiesen. Als solches stellt das SCSI-Protokoll nur eine Logikgliedadressierung innerhalb der Identifizierungsnachricht bereit. Bus und Zielinformationen sind durch die erstellte Verbindung stillschweigend vorausgesetzt.
  • Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen innerhalb einer Struktur werden durch ein eindeutiges Anschlussidentifizierungszeichen adressiert. Dieses Identifizierungszeichen ist einem Anschluss während bestimmter fest definierter Zustände des FC-Protokolls zugewiesen. Individualanschlüsse dürfen für eine bekannte benutzerdefinierte Adresse entscheiden. Falls eine solche Adresse nicht bereitgestellt wird oder die Entscheidung für eine bestimmte Benutzeradresse fehlschlägt, wird dem Anschluss vom FC-Protokoll eine eindeutige Adresse zugeteilt. Für diese Adresse besteht allgemein keine Garantie der Eindeutigkeit zwischen den Instanzen. Es existieren verschiedene Szenarien, wo die AL-PA einer Vorrichtung sich entweder nach dem Leistungszyklus oder der Schleifenumgestaltung ändert.
  • Das FC-Protokoll stellt ferner ein Logikglied-Adressfeld innerhalb Befehlsstrukturen bereit, um eine Adressierung zu internen Vorrichtungen eines Anschlusses bereitzustellen. Die FCP_CMD-Nutzlast spezifiziert ein Acht-Byte-LUN-Feld. Die anschließende Identifikation des Austausches zwischen Vorrichtungen wird durch die FQXID (vollqualifizierte Austausch-ID) bereitgestellt.
  • Es kann erforderlich sein, dass PC-Anschlüssen spezifische Adressen zugeteilt sind. Obwohl die Grundfunktionalität nicht davon abhängig ist, könnten Änderungen der Schleifenkonfiguration dazu führen, dass Plattenziele Identifizierungszeichen verändern, mit der potentiellen Gefahr von Datenverletzung oder -verlust. Diese Konfiguration kann einfach sein und daraus bestehen, der Vorrichtung eine schleifeneinzigartige ID (AL_PA) im Bereich von "01h" bis "EFh" zur Verfügung zu stellen. Speicherungssteuerungen könnten mit einem Ausgangsparameter unter der Annahme versandt werden, dass die meisten Konfigurationen Einzelspeicherungssteuerungen verwenden werden und keine anderen Vorrichtungen die vorliegende ID gerade anfordern. Dies würde den Systemverwalter mit einer Anfangskonfiguration-Mindestmenge versorgen. Alternativ könnte vorgegeben sein, dass Speicherungssteuerungen jede beliebige Adresse annehmen, so dass Konfigurationen, die Mehrfach-Speicherungssteuerungen auf einer Schleife erfordern, nicht verlangen würden, dass der Verwalter den zusätzlichen Speicherungssteuerungen eine eindeutige ID zuweist.
  • Eine Adressumrechnung wird benötigt, wo Steuerbefehle in den Fällen FC-Initiator zu SCSI-Ziel und SCSI-Initiator zu FC-Ziel erteilt werden. Die Zielantworten werden von der FQXID ausgebildet und halten die zu Beginn des Austausches erlangte Übersetzung fest. Dies verhindert, dass während des Ausführungsverlaufs eines Steuerbefehls stattfindende Konfigurationsänderungen bewirken, dass Daten oder Zustandsinformationen versehentlich fehlgeleitet werden. Die Konfiguration kann in den Fällen SCSI-Initiator zu FC-Ziel erforderlich sein, da die Auffindung evtl. nicht wirksam zulässt, dass FCP-Ziele folgerichtig gefunden werden. Dies beruht auf einer FC-Entscheidungsschleife, welche die Adressierung einer größeren Anzahl von Vorrichtungen als SCSI-Bus unterstützt, und auf der Möglichkeit, dass FC-Vorrichtungen ihre AL-PA aufgrund der Einfügung einer Vorrichtung oder anderen Schleifeninitialisierung ändert.
  • Im direkten Verfahren ist auch die Umrechnung der SCSI-Adresseninformationen auf BUS:ZIEL:LUN direkt. Das heißt, die im FCP-LUN-Feld dargestellten Werte bilden direkt auf die auf dem SCSI-Bus gültigen Werte ab. Dies liefert eine saubere Übersetzung und erfordert keine SCSI-Bus-Auffindung. Es erlaubt ferner ein freies Hinzufügen von Geräten zu dem SCSI-Bus ohne Modifizierung der Adresstabelle. Es kann keine vollständige Auffindung durch FCP-Initiatorvorrichtungen erlauben, da Lücken zwischen Geräteadressen den Auffindungsprozess stoppen können. Vermächtnis-SCSI-Gerätetreiber stoppen die Auffindung typischerweise an einer Zielvorrichtung am ersten unbesetzten LUN und rücken zum nächsten Ziel vor. Dies würde dazu führen, dass manche Geräte nicht aufgefunden würden. Jedoch lässt dies Schnellsteckgeräte und andere Änderungen an der Schleifenadressierung zu.
  • In dem geordneten Verfahren erfordert die geordnete Übersetzung, dass die Speicherungssteuerung bei Rücksetzung eine Auffindung durchführt und die Adressen auf dem SCSI-Bus zu sequentiellen FCP-LUN-Werten zusammenlegt. So können die FCP-LUN-Werte 0-N ungeachtet der SCSI-Adresswerte N+1 SCSI-Geräte in der Reihenfolge darstellen, in der sie während des SCSI-Auffindungsprozesses isoliert werden. Dies würde dem FCP-Initiator-Auffindungsprozess ermöglichen, alle abgebildeten SCSI-Geräte ohne weitere Konfiguration zu identifizieren. Dies weist die Einschränkung auf, dass Schnellsteckgeräte erst beim nächsten Rücksetzzyklus identifiziert werden. In diesem Fall kann auch die Adresse verändert werden.
  • Zusätzlich zur Adressierung stellt die Speicherungssteuerung gemäß der vorliegenden Erfindung eine Konfigurations- und Zugriffssteuerung bereit, die bewirken, dass bestimmte Anfragen von FC-Initiatoren zu einem zugeordneten virtuellen Lokalspeicher geleitet werden, der auf SCSI-Speichergeräte aufgeteilt ist. Beispielsweise kann dieselbe Anfrage bezüglich LUN 0 (Lokalspeicher) von zwei unterschiedlichen FC-Initiatoren zu zwei getrennten Speicheruntermengen geleitet werden. Die Speicherungssteuerung kann Tabellen verwenden, um für jeden Initiator abzubilden, welcher Speicherzugriff verfügbar ist und welche Speicherzone von einer bestimmten Anfrage adressiert wird. Auf diese Art und Weise kann der von SCSI-Speichergeräten bereitgestellte Speicherraum FC-Initiatoren zugeordnet werden, um eine virtuelle Lokalspeicherung bereitzustellen sowie eine beliebige andere gewünschte Konfiguration für einen gesicherten Zugriff zu schaffen.
  • Obwohl die vorliegende Erfindung detailliert beschrieben worden ist, sollte verständlich sein, dass verschiedenartiger Wechsel, Ersatz und Abänderungen daran vorgenommen werden können, ohne vom Schutzbereich der Erfindung abzuweichen, wie er durch die angehängten Ansprüche definiert ist.

Claims (12)

  1. Speicherungssteuerung (56) zum Liefern von virtueller Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten (60) an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen, umfassend: – einen Puffer (84), der Speicherarbeitsraum für die Speicherungssteuerung (56) bereitstellt; – eine Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit (80), die zum Anschluss an ein Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium (52) und zur Schnittstellenverbindung damit funktionsfähig ist; – eine SCSI-Steuereinheit (82), die zum Anschluss an ein SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54) und zur Schnittstellenverbindung damit funktionsfähig ist; gekennzeichnet durch eine Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit (86), die an die Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit (80), die SCSI-Steuereinheit (82) und den Puffer (84) gekoppelt ist, wobei die Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit (86) funktionsfähig ist: – eine Konfiguration für SCSI-Speichergeräte (60) zu unterhalten, die an das SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54) angeschlossen sind, das zwischen Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen und SCSI-Speichergeräten (60) abbildet und Zugriffssteuerungen für Speicherraum auf den SCSI-Speichergeräten (60) implementiert; und – Daten in dem Puffer (84) zur Verbindung zwischen der Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit (80) und der SCSI-Steuereinheit (82) zu verarbeiten, um den Zugriff von Glasfaserkanal-Initiatorvorrichtungen auf SCSI-Speichergeräte (60) unter Verwendung eines systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokolls in Übereinstimmung mit der Konfiguration zuzulassen.
  2. Speicherungssteuerung (56) nach Anspruch 1, wobei die von der Hauptsteuerprogramm-Einheit (86) unterhaltene Konfiguration eine Zuweisung von Untermengen von Speicherraum an zugeordnete Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen einschließt, wobei auf jede Untermenge nur von der zugeordneten Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtung zugegriffen werden kann.
  3. Speicherungssteuerung (56) nach Anspruch 1 oder 2, wobei die Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen Arbeitsstationen (58) umfassen.
  4. Speicherungssteuerung (56) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, wobei die SCSI-Speichergeräte (60) Festplattenlaufwerke umfassen.
  5. Speicherungssteuerung (56) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, wobei die Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit (80) umfasst: – eine Glasfaserkanal-Protokolleinheit (88), die zum Anschluss an das Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium (52) funktionsfähig ist; – eine FIFO-Warteschlange (90), die an die Glasfaserkanal-Protokolleinheit (88) gekoppelt ist; und – eine Direktzugriff-Schnittstelle (92), die an die FIFO-Warteschlange (90) und den Puffer (84) gekoppelt ist.
  6. Speicherungssteuerung (56) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 5, wobei die SCSI-Steuereinheit (82) umfasst: – eine SCSI-Protokolleinheit (98), die zum Anschluss an das SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54) funktionsfähig ist; – einen internen Puffer (96), der an die SCSI-Protokolleinheit (98) gekoppelt ist; und – eine Direktzugriff-Schnittstelle (94), die an den internen Puffer (96) und den Puffer (84) der Speicherungssteuerung (56) gekoppelt ist.
  7. Speichernetzwerk, das umfasst: – ein Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium (52); – ein SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54); – eine Vielzahl von Arbeitsstationen (58), die an das Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium (52) angeschlossen sind; und – eine Vielzahl von SCSI-Speichergeräten (60), die an das SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54) angeschlossen sind; gekennzeichnet durch eine Speicherungssteuerung (56) gemäß einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 6.
  8. Speichernetzwerk nach Anspruch 7, wobei: – die Glasfaserkanal-Steuereinheit (80) ferner funktionsfähig ist, abgehende Daten aus dem Puffer (84) herauszuziehen und eingehende Daten in dem Puffer (84) zu platzieren; und – die SCSI-Steuereinheit (82) ferner funktionsfähig ist, abgehende Daten aus dem Puffer (84) herauszuziehen und eingehende Daten in dem Puffer (84) zu platzieren.
  9. Verfahren zum Liefern von virtueller Lokalspeicherung auf entfernten SCSI-Speichergeräten (60) an Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen, umfassend: – Verbinden mit einem Glasfaserkanal-Transportmedium (52); – Verbinden mit einem SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54); gekennzeichnet durch die Schritte Unterhalten einer Konfiguration für SCSI-Speichergeräte (60), die an das SCSI-Bus-Transportmedium (54) angeschlossen ist, umfassend: – Abbilden zwischen Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen und den SCSI-Speichergeräten (60) und Implementieren von Zugriffssteuerungen für Speicherraum auf den SCSI-Speichergeräten; und – Verarbeiten von Daten, um den Zugriff von Glasfaserkanal-Initiatorvorrichtungen auf SCSI-Speichergeräte (60) unter Verwendung eines systemeigenen, einfachen Blockprotokolls in Übereinstimmung mit der Konfiguration zuzulassen.
  10. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9, wobei Unterhalten der Konfiguration Zuweisen von Untermengen von Speicherraum an zugeordnete Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen einschließt, wobei auf jede Untermenge nur durch die zugeordnete Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtung zugegriffen werden kann.
  11. Verfahren nach Anspruch 9 oder 10, wobei die Glasfaserkanal-Vorrichtungen Arbeitsstationen (58) umfassen.
  12. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 9 bis 11, wobei die SCSI-Speichergeräte (60) Festplattenlaufwerke umfassen.
