Description

The invention relates to a device for vehicles Monitoring of the area behind the vehicle.

So far are used to monitor the behind a vehicle the road section rear view mirror in the passenger compartment and / or on Exterior of the vehicle provided. A complete and ver distortion-free observation of the rear traffic is included However, mirroring is not possible. When using aspherical A small angular range, so-called, can always mirror blind spot cannot be seen. An overtaking vehicle that is in this angular range cannot be perceived. Outside mirror with spherical mirror glass  avoid this disadvantage, but with such game results only a distorted image behind the vehicle the roadway, making the assessment of the speed a vehicle approaching from behind is difficult. In addition, mirrors have the disadvantage that one at night Follow the risk of glare for the driver from the headlights of vehicles is given. A dimming option is in usually only for the inside mirror. With frequently changing Drivers of different heights also need the mirrors readjusted each time on the vehicle.

The invention is therefore based on the object back traffic avoiding the above to enable disadvantages mentioned.

The task is accomplished with a device of the beginning mentioned type according to the invention in that they min at least one optical recording device and one with it connected optical display device in the passenger compartment points. Display devices such as liquid crystal displays will soon become standard equipment for everyone Motor vehicle belong. They are intended as a display medium under others are used for so-called traffic control systems, which provide guidance for the cheapest route a desired destination as well as traffic jam information and diversion offer recommendations. These displays can be advantageous usually in the remaining time to monitor the rear  Traffic can be used by optically recording recorded images can be played back. A such use of the monitors is alternative or additional possible with rear-view mirrors. In this case, the optical recording device via a device for image processing connected to the display device. With the device for image processing is, for example Analog / digital conversion of the image signal and a preprocess processing, such as amplification or contrast processing sharpening feasible. Other benefits arise when at least two receiving devices are provided, the Single images from the image processing device to one Overall picture can be composed, which the entire backward covering the room. This way is a distortion-free and complete detection of what is behind the vehicle Possible. To use the device at under to enable different lighting conditions Photosensitivity of the at least one recording device expediently be automatically adjustable. Along with a corresponding evaluation of the recorded image signal through the facility for image processing can thus guarantee be done to monitor the rear traffic also hit the vehicle at night and from behind sunlight is possible. A risk of glare, as in Rear-view mirroring is excluded. By a adjustable arrangement of the at least one receiving device device on the vehicle, for example a video camera or  a CCD camera can be a quick change of the observed road section possible. An adaptation of the Adjustment of the at least one pick-up device to the driver is different in size, however, in contrast to mirrors unnecessary. The display device can also be in the passenger be arranged so that they from the driver's seat for all people are clearly visible without prior adjustment is. The entire device can also expediently the power supply of the motor vehicle must be connected.

Below is a preferred embodiment of one he device according to the invention with reference to the drawing purifies.

The single figure shows a block diagram of an inventive device. In the example shown, two cameras 10 and 11 are provided as optical recording devices, which are expediently arranged on the vehicle in such a way that the observation of an angular range of 180 ° or more and thus the entire space behind the vehicle is possible. The cameras 10 and 11 transmit their signals to a device 12 for image processing, which can contain, for example, an analog / digital converter and which evaluates the individual images of the cameras 10 and 11 and composes them into an overall image which is displayed on a subsequent monitor 13 . The overall image can be in the form of brightness and color values of individual pixels with which the liquid crystal cells of the monitor, which is expediently designed as a flat liquid crystal display, can be controlled. The device 12 for image processing can also have a microprocessor and be freely programmable. Or it is an integral part of an on-board computer with which further monitoring functions can be carried out on the vehicle and in which programs from traffic management systems can also be stored. The monitor 13 can then serve as a common display medium for all monitoring tasks and for the traffic control system. The main part of the time, the monitor 13 is used to monitor the rear traffic and, if necessary, to switch to the display of a program of the traffic control system or to simultaneously display both functions in different windows. Alarm signals or the like can simply be superimposed on the image of the road behind the vehicle.

The cameras 10 and 11 are also provided with light sensors 14 and 15 , which enable automatic regulation of the light sensitivity of the cameras 10 and 11 . The sensors can also be coupled to the device 12 for image processing, so that strong overexposure or underexposure can be compensated for during later processing of the image signals, for example by contrast enhancement.
