Abstract

In a known device for covering and cleaning the nozzle surface of an ink jet print head, a sealing plate provided with a cutout is mounted in front of the nozzle surface so as to be pivotable between a closed position which covers the nozzle apertures and an open position which exposes the nozzle apertures through the cutout. To increase the cleaning performance, the ink jet print head (1) according to the invention has, in addition to its ink ducts supplied with ink, a further similar duct which is connected to a supply container filled with a cleaning liquid. Arranged in front of the nozzle aperture of this one duct is a deflection panel (14) to deflect the cleaning liquid ejected from said duct onto the nozzle surface (5). <IMAGE>

Description

The invention relates to a device for cleaning the Nozzle area of an ink print head with one in front of it Nozzle surface movably arranged wiping element.

Such a device known from DE-DS 32 07 072 consists of a front of the nozzle surface of an ink print head pivotably arranged wiping element in the form of a Sealing plate, a cutout in the area of the nozzle surface has sharp edges and by means of a fastening clamp is pressed against the nozzle surface. Depending on the pan position of the sealing plate, it seals the nozzle surface of the Ink printhead or gives with its cutout Nozzle openings in the nozzle area freely, during the Swiveling movement of the sealing plate the sharp edges of the Wipe the cut-out over the nozzle surface and do this clean.

It is also known from DE-PS 26 10 518, an ink printhead and especially its nozzle surface clean that the pressure in the ink system is briefly increased, so that ink emerges from the nozzle openings and thereby Dirt particles washed away from the nozzle surface.

However, it has been found that with ink printing units, caused by paper dust and ink residues in the area of the nozzles area clogged and glued, the above Cleaning procedures alone are no longer sufficient to Remove dirt on the nozzle surface, especially by the pollution also the function of cleaning and Locking mechanism is impaired.

According to the invention it is provided that in the device in addition to the type of ink printhead specified at the beginning its inked ink channels another contains a similar channel that is connected to a cleaning liquid-filled storage container is connected, and that a deflector in front of the nozzle opening of this one channel to redirect the cleaning ejected from this channel liquid is arranged on the nozzle surface.

The main advantage of the device according to the invention is that by simply controlling the channel with the cleaning liquid before or during the movement of the Wiping the nozzle surface with the cleaning liquid is wetted so that even strong incrustations of paper dust and ink residues are removed. As a cleaning liquid finds for example an aqueous solution with alcohol and if necessary, surfactant additives or just one non-volatile solvent, e.g. Polyethylene glycol, Use, which loosens the dirt. A Another advantage is that the cleaning procedure no deliberate external influence is required, but can be done automatically by the cleaning liquid containing channel at regular intervals from the Electronics of the ink printer to eject a predetermined Amount of cleaning fluid is excited. By a automatic regular cleaning of the nozzle surface is about it also prevent the ink from drying in advance knitted because the ejected cleaning liquid Cleaning mechanics infiltrated and so the parts of the Device wetting ink and the ink in the nozzles keeps openings fluid.

A convenient distribution of the cleaning liquid on the Nozzle surface is advantageously achieved in that the further channel above the other ink channels in the Nozzle surface opens. That from the deflector on the nozzles  surface redirected cleaning fluid then runs automatically down on the nozzle surface and thus reaches each of the in the As a rule, nozzle openings arranged one below the other in a column.

As for the design and arrangement of the deflector, so is this when holding the nozzle plate Nozzle surface by means of a fastening clip on the ink printhead preferably formed on the mounting bracket. The mounting bracket can, as from DE-OS 32 07 072 known, both for guiding and holding the wiper serve element.

As an alternative to the training known from DE-OS 32 07 072 of the wiping element as a swiveling sealing plate Wiping element preferably made of a tape that in the tape direction Contains a plurality of adjacent cutouts and in is transported in one direction past the nozzle surface. When transporting the belt, therefore, alternate between Writing and pausing the ink printhead either the individual excerpts in the volume or between the Cut-out band sections alternately one after the other in front of the nozzle openings in the nozzle surface, whereby in the writing the individual cutouts operated the nozzle openings release and the individual tape sections during the pauses cover the nozzle area in each case. Thereby wipe in advantage the edges of the cutouts always in one Direction, namely the direction of transport of the tape over the Nozzle surface so that once dirt particles are not wiped away be transported back more like this with a round trip Movement would be the case. In addition, the nozzle area of the Ink printhead in each pause every time by one closed new, unpurified section of the tape. At the The cleaning liquid is sealed by capillary forces in the gap between the nozzle surface and the sealing tape sucked in and thus forms a liquid upholstery that closes the nozzle openings.

In this context, the tape can advantageously in the band sections of the Contain nozzle surface opposite pocket-like formations; this results in the area of the nozzle openings Preventing micro-climate from drying in the ink, so that on hermetic sealing of the nozzle openings can be dispensed with can.

Zur Erläuterung der Erfindung wird im folgenden auf die Figuren der Zeichnung Bezug genommen, von denenTo explain the invention, reference is made to the figures below referred to the drawing, of which

Fig. 1 in perspektivischer Ansicht einen Tintendruckkopf mit einem Band zum Abdecken und Reinigungen der Düsenfläche des Tintendruckkopfes und Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an ink print head with a tape for covering and cleaning the nozzle surface of the ink print head and

Fig. 2 denselben Tintendruckkopf in schematischer Schnittdarstellung zeigen. Fig. 2 show the same ink printhead in a schematic sectional view.

The ink jet head 1 shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 consists of a plastic body 2, in which between an ink distribution unit 3 and an a recording medium (paper), not shown here facing boundary surface of the ink jet print head 1 individual ink channels 4 extend. The inkjet print head 1 is closed on the boundary surface with a nozzle plate (nozzle surface) 5 , through the nozzle openings 6 of which ink droplets are ejected in the direction of the recording medium. Piezo elements, which are located inside the ink print head 1 and are not visible in the illustrations in FIGS. 1 and 2, serve as drive elements for the ejection of the ink droplets. For ink supply to the ink print head 1 , the ink channels 4 in the area of the ink distribution unit 3 are connected to a common ink supply line 7 , which is connected to an ink reservoir 8 . In addition to the ink channels 4 , the plastic body 2 contains a further channel 9 , which opens into the nozzle surface 5 above the remaining ink channels 4 and is connected in the region of the ink distribution unit 3 via a separate supply line 10 to a reservoir 11 filled with a cleaning liquid. To eject the cleaning liquid, the further channel 9 as well as the individual ink channels 4 is assigned a drive element (not visible here). The nozzle plate 5 is held by a mounting bracket 12 on the ink print head 1 , on which two approaches are provided for this purpose, in which the mounting bracket 12 engages; of the two approaches, only the approach labeled 13 is visible here. On the mounting bracket 12 , a deflector 14 is formed in such a way that it protrudes into the trajectory of the cleaning liquid ejected from the further channel 9 and thus causes a deflection of the cleaning liquid ejected from the channel 9 onto the nozzle surface 5 .

To cover and clean the nozzle surface 5, there is a wiping element in the form of a band 15 which, as shown in FIG. 1, contains a plurality of cutouts 16 arranged equidistantly in the band direction. The cutouts 16 and their spacing from one another are dimensioned such that each cutout 16 is large enough to completely open the nozzle openings 6 of the ink channels 4 and the further channel 9 in the nozzle surface 5 , and the band sections 17 lying between the cutouts 16 are each large enough are to completely cover the nozzle surface 5 . In the region of the band sections 17 , the band 15 has, on its side facing the nozzle surface 5, for example pocket-like formations 18 produced by embossing. The only partially shown in Fig. 1 belt 15 is preferably formed as an endless belt and hold ent in a tape cassette, not shown here, similar to an ink ribbon cassette, within which a drive similar to a ribbon drive for transporting the tape 15 past the nozzle surface 5 in a predetermined Transport direction 19 ensures.

In particular, the transport of the tape 15 takes place in such a way that in the writing operation of the ink print head 1 the tape 15 always comes to lie with one of its cutouts 16 in front of the nozzle openings 6 in the nozzle surface 5 of the ink print head 1 and so the nozzle openings 6 for ink ejection in the direction releases on the record carrier to be printed. When changing from the writing operation of the ink print head 1 to a writing break, a certain amount of the cleaning liquid is first expelled dropwise through the channel 9 , the droplets being deflected by the deflecting orifice 14 onto the nozzle surface 5 . Subsequently, the tape 15 is moved so far in its transport direction 19 that instead of the cutout 16, the adjoining tape section 17 comes in front of the nozzle surface 5 of the ink print head 1 and covers it. The cut 16 wipes with its edge over the nozzle surface 5 and cleans it from accumulated dirt. Since the belt 15 is always transported in one direction, namely the transport direction 19 , it is ensured that dirt particles once removed from the nozzle surface 5 cannot be wiped back into the nozzle openings 6 . When the covering is now in the write pause, the nozzle surface 5 band portion 17 18 is a micro-climate is formed due to its wetting with the cleaning liquid in the nozzle openings 6 facing pocket-like shape of which prevents the ink from drying in the region of the nozzle openings. 6

Dabei erfolgt wiederum eine reinigende Wischbewegung des Bandes 15 über die Düsenfläche 6.During the transition from a pause in writing to the ink print head 1 , the tape is moved in the transport direction 19 to such an extent that a cutout 16 again reaches the nozzle surface 5 and releases the nozzle openings 6 . Here again, a cleaning wiping movement of the belt 15 takes place over the nozzle surface 6 .
