Abstract

Description
发明背景
当前,用异步传递模式(ATM)技术来为由以前传输格式(诸如,DS1和DS0)fa载送的业务提供高速传输。这种ATM传输技术运用ATM互通复接器(ATM mux)来把电信业务从以前的格式转换成可以通过宽带连接传输的ATM信元。在宽带系统的终接端,另一个ATM mux再把ATM信元转换回以前的格式以输送到以前的传输系统。
许多以前的传输格式要求发送连续信号,即使是在不传输任何用户业务的时候。例如,无论DS0连接是否传输任何用户业务,DS0连接都会连续地发送64,000位/秒信号。这使上述传输方案发生问题。ATM mux把DS0信号转换成用于传输的ATM信元,而且由于DS0信号是连续的,所以必须由ATM网络来传输连续ATM信元流。即使不传输任何用户业务的时候,也会发生这种传输。在空ATM信元中仍然传输空闲DS0信号。检测这些不传输用户信息的空闲连续信号的方法包括分析连续信号的信息抽样,以检测空闲代码。然而,用户信息(诸如,声音或数据)可以模仿这些空闲代码。当要确定信号是否携带用户信息时,这会引起一些问题。

发明概述
本发明包括用于在ATM信元中传输用户信息的异步传递模式(ATM)系统。ATM信元包括虚拟路径标识/虚拟信道标识(VPI/VCI)。用户信息是来自产生与连续信号相关的电信信令的连续信号传输系统。连续信号与VPI/VCI有关。
本系统包括处理器和ATM互通复接器。处理器接收电信信令,并根据该信令检测何时连续信号传输用户信息,何时连续信号不传输用户信息。处理器使连续信号与VPI/VCI建立联系。处理器还提供控制命令以当连续信号传输用户信息时启用VPI/VCI,而且提供控制命令以当连续信号不传输用户信息时禁用VPI/VCI。
ATM互通复接器与处理器耦合。ATM互通复接器接收连续信号并使它与VPI/VCI建立联系。ATM互通复接器接收来自处理器的控制命令,并响应启用控制命令产生并发送包含VPI/VCI和用户信息的ATM信元。ATM互通复接器响应禁用控制命令不产生并停发包含VPI/VCI的ATM信元。
本发明具有许多种变化。电信信令协议可为7号信令方式(SS7)。处理器可以应用SS7起始地址消息(IAM)以检测何时连续信号传输用户信息。处理器可以运用在SS7IAM中的电路标识代码(CIC)以识别连续信号,并使连续信号与VPI/VCI建立联系。处理器可以运用SS7释放消息(REL)或释放完成消息(RLC)检测何时连续信号不传输用户信息。
本发明可以包括与处理器链接并把电信信令传递到处理器的信号转接点(STP)。STP可以把7号信令方式(SS7)消息选路标记的副本传递到处理器。STP可以把SS7起始地址消息(IAM)、释放消息(REL)或释放完成消息(RLC)的选路标记副本传递到处理器。STP可以把SS7选路标记传递到具有特定始发端代码(OPC)和目的端代码(DPC)的处理器。
ATM互通复接器可以接收连续DS3信号或连续DS1信号。ATM互通复接器可以通过SONET连接线发送ATM信元。在一些实施例中,ATM互通复接器支持多个信号。各个VPI/VCI与各个连续信号相对应。ATM互通复接器包括:接收连续信号的连续信号接口、把连续信号转换成带有相应VPI/VCI的ATM信元的ATM适配层(AAL)、发送ATM信元的ATM接口,以及接收控制命令并控制AAL产生和发送带有启用VPI/VCI的信元,停止产生和停发带有禁用VPI/VCI的ATM信元的控制接口。
本发明具备使ATM只传输实际携带用户信息的信元的优点。不发送包含连续信号而不包括用户信息的信元。这有效分配和应用ATM系统中的带宽。

详细说明
为了说明清楚,用术语“连接线”表示用于载送用户通信业务的传输媒体。用术语“链路”来表示用于载送信令的传输媒体。在图中,用单线表示连接线。而用双线表示信令链路。
图1示出本发明的一个形态的方框图。图中示出交换机100、ATM互通复接器(mux)105、映像器(mapper)110、ATM系统115和信号转接点(STP)120。这些组成部分由连接线150-152连接,并由链路160-163链接(如图所示)。熟悉该技术的人员知道大型网络具有比图中所示多得多的组成部分,但是为了说明清楚限制其数量。本发明完全适用于大型网络。
交换机100是传统交换机,它发送在连续信号内的用户通信业务。连续信号的例子是DS3、DS1或DS0信号。连接线150和151是传统传输媒体,它传送连续信号以传输用户信息。ATM系统115和连接线152是传输ATM信元的传统部件。在现有技术中已知在该图中所示的组成部分。
用电信信令来建立并拆除呼叫连接线。STP120在信令链路160-163上按规定线路发送信令。按照7号信令方式(SS7)描述本发明,但是熟悉该技术的人员应理解可将本发明用于其它信令方式。信令链路160-163是众所周知的SS7链路。STP120是信令装置,例如,它可以是已根据本发明加以改变的传统STP。在下面将要描述的另一个实施例中,不要求改变STP。
在本实施例中,改变STP120以复制特定SS7消息的选路标记,并在链路162上把它们传输到映像器110。SS7消息的选路标记携带信令消息的选路信息,诸如,消息的始发端代码(OPC)和目的端代码(DPC)。选路标记包括电路标识代码(CIC)和消息类型。CIC识别携带给定呼叫的用户通信业务的实际电路。一般,CIC识别DS0连接线。消息类型识别消息的类型。在SS7中,用起始消息(IAM)来建立呼叫,而且用释放消息(REL)和/或释放完成消息(RLC)来拆除呼叫。一般,REL释放呼叫连接,而RLC确认该释放。但偶尔,不接收REL,而RLC实际上释放呼叫连接。
映像器110只需要运用连接线151的呼叫用的IAM和REL。为了获得更有效的系统,还可以使用RLC。当接收到REL时,RLC用于确认,但还可当没有接收到REL时用于拆线。另一方面,如果未接收到REL消息仍为通信性能所容许,那么可以省略RLC的运用。
熟悉本技术的人员十分熟悉选择这些选路径标记的各种方法。判别功能可以根据消息类型、OPC和/或DPC来选择适当的消息。例如,可为IAM、REL或RLC代码筛选消息类型。然后,又为交换机100的OPC或DPC筛选上述代码的消息。熟悉本技术的人员可以知道另外的筛选标准。判别功能可以包含在STP120中,包含在映像器110中或分布在两者之间。例如,STP110可以只把IAM、REL和RLC三种选路标记传送到映像器110,而且映像器只运用具有与连接线151相关的OPC/DPC组合的选路标记。
映像器110一般是具有设计用于接收并处理由STP120所提供的选路标记的传统接口软件的处理器,但也可以考虑支持本发明要求的其它处理结构件。此外,映像器110还可用于运用信令消息的OPC、DPC和CIC检索与特定CIC相关的预定虚拟连接。由虚拟路径标识(VPI)和虚拟信道标识(VCI)的组合识别虚拟连接。ATM VPI和VCI是众所周知的。一般,在复接器105的一端的每个DS0具有与另一端对应的VPI/VCI。
此外,映像器110可用于把控制消息传送到复接器105。对于呼叫建立,控制消息命令复接器105启用与呼叫相联系的VPI/VCI。对于呼叫拆线,控制消息命令复接器105禁用与呼叫相联系的VPI/VCI。
复接器105配置成使连接线151上的DS0与连接线152上其相应的VPI/VCI互通。复接器105把用户通信业务从DS0转换成标明相应VPI/VCI的ATM信元。然后,复接器105在连接线152上把ATM传送到ATM系统120。复接器105还用于对自连接线152的ATM信元(进行逆处理,这些信元包含必须在连接线151上传输的用户信息。复接器105可用于按照来自映像器110的控制消息的命令启用或者禁用VPI/VCI。这意味着,只在启用的VPI/VCI上发送ATM信元。如果禁用VPI/VCI,复接器105就不在该虚拟连接上发送信元。
在一个实施例中,系统对通过连接线150输入的呼叫进行如下操作。交换机100上的呼叫连接会占用在连接线150上的DS0。在链路160上接收IAM,并由STP120在链路161上转发给交换机100。交换机100处理IAM并在连接线151上选择DS0。交换机100产生另一个IAM以通过链路161和STP120把它传递到网络上。
STP120核对消息类型、OPC和DPC,以确定这是来自交换机100的关于连接线151的IAM。结果,STP120复制IAM的选路标记并通过链路162把它传递到映像器115。映像器115识别与OPC/DPC/CIC相对应的VPI/VCI。然后,映像器110把控制消息传送到复接器105,命令复接器105启用VPI/VCI。一旦VPC/VCI被启用,复接器105就开始运用VPI/VCI通过连接线152把ATM信元发送到ATM系统115。该信元包含来自在由1AM选路标记识别的连接线151上的DS0的信息。
当呼叫终止时,在信令系统上把REL发送到交换机100。STP120核对信息类型和DPC,以确定这是涉及连接线151而送到交换机100的REL。结果,STP120复制REL的选路标记并通过链路162把它传递到映像器110。映像器110识别与在REL中的OPC/DPC/CIC相对应的VPI/VCI。然后,映像器110把控制消息发送到复接器105,命令它禁用VPI/VCI。结果,复接器105不通过禁用的VPI/VCI发送信元。如果使用RLC,那么它们起到确认REL的作用,而如果没有接收到REL,那么用与上述应用REL的相同的方法应用RLC。
对于从相反方向(即,从ATM系统115到连接线150的方向)建立的呼叫,发生类似的处理过程。在这种情况下,根据与连接线151有关的IAM和REL(可能是RLC),启用/禁用VCI/VPI。
本发明具有显著的优点,那是因为只有当在呼叫中需要虚拟连接的时候才使用这些虚拟连接,而且当呼叫结束后不能用它们。这防止复接器传送不包含任何用户通信业务的空信元。这使得在ATM网络中可更加有效地分配并使用带宽。
图2详细示出复接器和映像器。图中示出连续信号接口200、ATM适配层(AAL)205、ATM接口210、控制接口215和映像器220。还示出连续信号连接线215、ATM连接线252和信令链路262。
连续信号连接线251运用连续信号(例如,DS3信号)传递用户通信业务。ATM连接线252用例如SONET连接传递ATM信元。信令链路262的一个例子是SS7链路。连续信号接口200可以接收连续信号格式(诸如,DS3格式)的用户信息。连续信号接口200一般把信号(诸如,DS3和DS1)去复接成DS0信号分量。
AAL205包括收敛子层和分割和重装(SAR)子层。AAL205可以接受来自连续信号接口200的用户信息,并把该信息转换成ATM信元。AAL205根据特定入局连接,选择ATM的VPI/VCI。例如,特定入局DS0可用预分配的VPI/VCI。在现有技术中已知AAL,而且由国际电信联盟(ITU)第I.363.1.号文件提供关于AAL的信息。在专利申请第08/395,745号(在1995年2月28日申请,标题为“声音传输的信元处理”,列入于此以作参考)中也描述了用于声音的AAL。ATM接口210可以接受ATM信元并通过ATM连接线252发送它们。
控制接口215能够接受来自映像器220的控制消息,并启用/禁用特定VPI/VCI。通过使AAL205核实在产生信元之前启用VPI/VCI,可以做到这点。通过使ATM接口210筛选带有禁用VPI/VCI的ATM信元,也可以做到这点。熟悉该技术的人员理解抑制通过禁用VPI/VCI发送信元的各种方法。
映像器220用于接受来自信令链路262的选路标记,并确定是启用还是禁用VPI/VCI。映像器220要求接口软件在链路162上进行操作,并与控制接口215进行通信。映像器220可能具有鉴别逻辑选择适当的选路标记以对它进行进一步处理。上面已讨论这些标记。
系统进行操作如下。信令消息选路标记到达链路262上,并由映像器220对其进行处理。如上所述,这可能需要进行一些鉴别来确定是否由映像器220处理选路标记。只有与建立并拆除运用连接线251的呼叫相关的选路标记才需要进行处理。
映像器220运用OPC、DPC和CIC确定VPI/VCI受到的影响。如果消息类型是用于IAM的,那么把启用VPI/VCI控制消息发送到控制接口215。如果信息类型是用于REL(或者有可能是用于RLC的),那么把禁用VPI/VCI控制消息发送到控制接口215。用这种方法,只在实际呼叫中发送ATM信元。当呼叫终止时,禁用VPI/VCI,从而不发送空信元。当另一个呼叫要求VPI/VCI时,启用VPI/VCI,可传输信元。比起现有技术的系统(它不管实际呼叫是否要求连接都发送信元),这节省了大量的带宽。
熟悉本技术的人员应理解对于上述实施例的各种变化。在一些实施例中,可以应用其它信令(诸如,C7或UNI信令)来替代SS7。在一些实施例中,消息鉴别的位置可能是映像器,或者在STP,或分散到两者之中。在一些实施例中,交换机可以编程,使适当的选路标记副本传到映像器。在本例中运用传统的STP。在一些实施例中,实际消息传过映像器,因而不需要制作副本。映像器被动读取相关信息。有些实施例中,映像器功能可驻入交换机、SRP,或独立于其他组成部分。这时,映像器可通过常规控制信道与复接器通信。还可用多个映像器或单个映像器控制多个复接器。上述实施例外,熟悉本技术的人员会知道其他不同的形态。为此,本发明的范围本应不局限于特定的实施例,而仅受以下权利要求书的约束。
Claims (21)
1.一种用于传输在包含虚拟路径标识/虚拟信道标识(VPI/VCI)的ATM信元中的用户信息的异步传递模式(ATM)系统,其特征在于,用户信息来自连续信号传输系统,所述连续信号传输系统用连续信号传输所述用户信息并产生与所述连续信号相关的电信信令,而且所述连续信号与VPI/VCI有关;所述系统包括:
处理器,它用于接收所述电信信令,并根据该电信信令检测何时所述连续信号传输所述用户信息,何时所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息,其中,所述处理器用于使所述连续信号与所述VPI/VCI建立联系,以当所述连续信号传输所述用户信息时提供启用所述VPI/VCI的控制命令,当所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息时提供禁用所述VPI/VCI的控制命令;

6.如权利要求3所述的系统,其特征在于,所述处理器可用于与运用至少SS7释放消息(REL)的一部分,检测何时所述连续信号不再传输用户信息。
7.如权利要求3所述的系统,其特征在于,所述处理可用于运用至少SS7释放完成消息(RLC)的一部分,检测何时所述连续信号不再传输用户信息。
8.如权利要求1所述的系统,其特征在于,还包括被链接到所述处理器而且可用于把所述电信信令传递到所述处理器的信号转接点(STP)。
9.如权利要求8所述的系统,其特征在于,所述STP可用于把7号信令方式(SS7)消息选路标记的副本传递到所述处理器。
10.如权利要求9所述的系统,其特征在于,所述STP可用于把SS7起始地址消息(IAM)和释放消息(REL)选路标记的副本传递到所述处理器。
11.如权利要求9所述的系统,其特征在于,所述STP可用于把SS7释放完成消息(RLC)选路标记的副本传递到所述处理器。
12.如权利要求9所述的系统,其特征在于,所述STP可用于把SS7选路标记的副本传递到具有特定始发端代码(OPC)和目的端代码(DPC)的所述处理器。
13.如权利要求1所述的系统,其特征在于,还包括链接到所述处理器并可用于把所述电信信令传递到所述处理器的交换机,其中把所述交换机连到所述ATM互通复接器,可用于把所述连续信号发送到所述ATM互通复接器。
14.如权利要求1所述的系统,其特征在于,所述ATM互通复接器可用于接收连续DS3信号。
15.如权利要求1所述的系统,其特征在于,所述ATM互通复接器可用于接收连续DS1信号。
16.如权利要求1所述的系统,其特征在于,所述ATM互通复接器可用于通过SONET连接发送所述ATM信元。
17.一种在电信系统中用于使多个连续信号与ATM信号互通的异步传递模式(ATM)互通复接器,其特征在于,所述ATM信号包括多个ATM信元,每个所述ATM信元包括多个虚拟路径标识/虚拟信道标识(VPI/VCI)中的一个,各个VPI/VCI与各个连续信号相对应,所述电信系统向所述ATM互通复接器提供控制命令,以当所述相应连续信号传输用户信息时启用特定VPI/VCI,而且所述电信系统向ATM互通复接器提供控制命令,以当所述相应连续信号不传输用户信息时禁用特定VPI/VCI;所述ATM互通复接器包括:
连续信号接口,可用于接收来自所述电信系统的所述连续信号;
与所述连续信号接口耦合并可用于把所述连续信号转换成带有相应VPI/VCI的ATM信元的ATM适配层(AAL);
与所述AAL耦合而且可用于把所述ATM信元发送到所述电信系统的ATM接口;
控制接口,它与AAL耦合而且可用于接收来自所述电信系统的控制命令,并控制所述AAL产生和发送带有启用VPI/VCI的信元以及停止所述产生和发送带有禁用VPI/VCI的ATM信元。
18.一种传输在异步传递模式(ATM)系统中的ATM信元内用户信息的方法,其特征在于,所述ATM信元包括虚拟路径标识和虚拟信道标识(VPI/VCI),所述用户信息来自运用连续信号传输所述用户信息并发送与所述连续信号相关的电信信令的连续信号传输系统,而且所述连续信号与所述VPI/VCI相对应;所述方法包括:
接收来自所述连续信号传输系统的所述连续信号和所述电信信令;
根据所述电信信令,检测何时所述连续信号传输所述用户信息;
响应于检测到所述连续信号传输所述用户信息,使所述连续信号与所述相应的VPI/VCI建立联系;
响应于检测到所述连续信号传输所述用户信息,使所述连续信号与所述相应VPI/VCI建立联系,产生并发送包括所述相应VPI/VCI和所述用户信息的ATM信元;
根据所述电信信令,检测何时所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息;
响应于检测到所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息,停止所述产生并发送包括所述相应VPI/VCI和所述用户信息的ATM信元。
19.如权利要求18所述的方法,其特征在于,由所述连续信号传输系统发送的所述电信信令是7号信令方式(SS7)。
20.如权利要求19所述的方法,其特征在于,
根据SS7起始地址消息(IAM),检测何时所述连续信号传输所述用户信息;
根据所述IAM中的所述电路标识代码(CIC),使所述连续信号与所述相应VPI/VCI建立联系;
根据SS7释放消息(REL),检测何时所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息。
21.如权利要求19所述的方法,其特征在于,
根据SS7起始地址消息(IAM),检测何时所述连续信号传输所述用户信息;
根据所述IAM中的所述电路标识代码(CIC),使所述连续信号与所述相应VPI/VCI建立联系;
根据SS7释放完成消息(RLC),检测何时所述连续信号不传输所述用户信息。
