Abstract
一种用使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统,包括用于将TCP/IP数据加载到指定的ATM信元或者将ATM信元上加载的TCP/IP数据传送到个人计算机(PC)的机顶盒,以及用于将符合外部网络所使用的协议的数据转换为通过机顶盒和ATM网络上传输的TCP/IP数据或者作相反转换的互联网网关。
Description
本发明涉及用于使用串行线和ATM(异步传送模式)网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统。
当今,通过个人计算机(PC)的互联网业务被广泛提供给人们进行相互间的几乎无时间和空间限制的信息交换。为此,可能会把ATM网络用作数字CATV或VOD网络。TCP/IP是一种典型的互联网协议,通过该协议在ATM网络上提供互联网业务。图1说明了一种用于使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的该种协议的常规处理系统。
参考图1,PC 106通过RS-232C串行口与机顶盒105相连接以实现基于TCP/IP的数据通信。TCP/IP通信软件包括点到点协议(PPP)以及通过调制解调器实现数据通信的串行线互联网协议(SLIP)。PPP是用于广域网连接的TCP/IP的子协议,SLIP则用于ATM互联网协议连接。机顶盒105又通过ATM网络102、HDT103、和光纤网络设备(ONU)104与互联网网关101连接。这些设备之间通过光缆连接,通过光缆的通信是按照互联网标准“RFC157”的基于ATM的互联网协议(Ip-Over-ATM即基于ATM的IP)而完成的。此外,机顶盒105需要一个数据转换模块用于SLIP协议和Ip-Over-ATM协议之间的数据转换以实现互联网业务。至于互联网网关101则采用Unix设备或路由器。
但是,这种在SLIP协议和Ip-Over-ATM协议之间的用于数据转换的转换模块需要耗费相当多的CPU资源,会使顶盒的综合性能变坏。而且,机顶盒在不支持Ip-Over-ATM协议的ATM网络中不能有效使用。
本发明的目的是提供一种用于使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统,在该系统中机顶盒不需要实现协议转换。
本发明的另一个目的是提供一种用于与ATM网络所采用的协议类型无关的互联网业务协议处理系统。
根据本发明,一种用于使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统,包括一个用于将TCP/IP数据加载到指定的ATM信元或者将加载在ATM信元上的TCP/IP数据传送到PC的机顶盒,以及一个用于将符合外部网络所使用的协议的数据转换为通过机顶盒和ATM网络传输的TCP/IP数据或者作相反转换的互联网网关。
现在将参考作为举例说明的附图对本发明作更详细的描述。
图1用框图说明了一种使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的常规协议处理系统。
图2是与图1相似的框图,不同之处是具有根据本发明的互联网网关和机顶盒的新颖构造;以及
图3用框图说明图2中的互联网网关的结构。
参考图2,显示的是一种用于使用串行线和ATM网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统,该系统连接到数字CATV网络。PC 206通过RS-232C串行口与机顶盒205相连接,用于交换SLIP数据。它也通过ATM网络202、HDT203、和ONU104与互联网网关201连接来交换SLIP数据。这些设备之间都通过光缆连接。互联网网关201将SLIP数据转换为TCP/IP数据或作相反的转换。
参考图3,互联网网关201包括骨干连接电路304、SLIP处理器301、ATM连接电路302、和IP控制器303。SLIP处理器301将TCP/IP数据转换为SLIP数据或作相反的转换。骨干连接电路304与骨干网,如以太网,光纤分布数据接口(FDDI),ATM网络等相连。骨干连接电路与SLIP处理器进行TCP/IP数据的交换。IP控制器303控制通过互联网网关与外部连接的PC的所有IP,根据SLIP处理器301的要求提供信息。ATM连接电路302将SLIP处理器301的SLIP数据加载到ATM信元信道上,并传送给机顶盒205。它也将来自机顶盒205的在ATM信元上加载的SLIP数据传送给SLIP处理器301。
运行时,PC206调用SLIP或PPP把TCP/IP数据通过串口传送到机顶盒205,接着机顶盒205把SLIP或PPP数据加载到指定的ATM信元上,通过ONU204、HDT203和ATM网络202将数据传送到互联网网关201。在互联网网关201中,SLIP处理器301对从ATM连接电路302收到的SLIP或PPP数据进行翻译并转换为相应的TCP/IP数据,传送给骨干连接电路304。
相反,从外部骨干网络输入到PC206的数据被转换为TCP/IP数据传送给SLIP处理器301,接着将TCP/IP数据转换为相应的SLIP数据传送给ATM连接电路302。SLIP数据被加载到指定的ATM信元上,通过ONU204,HDT203和ATM网络202将数据传送到机顶盒205,接着机顶盒205将SLI P数据通过串口传送到PC206。最后,PC206将SLIP数据翻译为相应的TCP/IP数据。
因此,本发明的系统具有以下优点:
第一,PC的互联网协议地址是由互联网网关控制的,使网络控集中化。第二,机顶盒可以更有效而高速地实现音频/视频解码的基本功能,因为它不需要完成按照互联网协议的数据转换功能。第三,本发明的互联网网关在与各种外部网络的连接方面提供了通用性,有助于网络的发展。
虽然本文已就具体的实施案例对本发明以及附图进行了描述,但是本领域的技术人员将理解,在不违背本发明要旨的前提下可以做各种修改和更正。
Claims (2)
1.一种用于使用串行线和异步传送模式(ATM)网络的互联网业务的协议处理系统,包括:
一个机顶盒,用于从计算机单元接收串行线互联网协议(SLIP)数据,将上述SLIP数据加载到指定的ATM信元和将加载在ATM信元上的SLIP数据传送到计算机单元;
一个ATM网络,用于接收从上述机顶盒输出的所述SLIP数据,然后将所述SLIP数据输出到一个互联网网关,和从互联网网关接收SLIP数据和然后将ATM信元上的SLIP数据输出到所述机顶盒;和
一个互联网网关,用于从所述ATM网络接收加载到所述ATM上的所述SLIP数据,根据一个外部网络中使用的协议将加载到所述ATM上的所述SLIP数据转换为通过所述机顶盒传输的SLIP数据,将所述转换后的数据传送到所述外部网络,接收来自所述外部网络的数据,转换该数据为SLIP数据,和将转换后的数据传送到机顶盒。
2.如权利要求1中定义的系统,其特征在于其中该互联网网关进一步包括:
与该外部网络相连的骨干连接电路,用于将符合该外部网络所使用的协议的数据转换为TCP/IP数据或作相反的转换;
ATM连接电路,用于将TCP/IP数据加载到指定的通过该ATM网络传输的ATM信元上,或者用于从通过该ATM网络接收到的ATM信元上分离TCP/IP数据;
TCP/IP数据处理器,用于处理从该骨干连接电路和ATM连接电路接收到的TCP/IP数据;以及
IP控制器,用于控制与该ATM网络连接的该PC的互联网协议。
