技术领域
本公开涉及输入装置,更具体地涉及输入装置的电容传感器。
背景技术
为了执行计算装置中的操作,存在各种类型的输入装置。输入装置的一些示例包括按钮、键盘、鼠标、轨迹球、触摸板、控制杆和触摸屏等。计算装置的一些示例包括个人计算机、媒体播放器、遥控器、个人数字助理(PDA)、手机等。通过输入装置执行的操作主要包括例如移动光标选择显示在计算装置的显示屏上的项目或者在音频文件列表中浏览以选择音频文件来播放。
随着计算装置的发展,它们在提供增加的性能的同时趋向于减小尺寸。鉴于此,为这些计算装置设计输入装置会遇到独特的问题。
例如,一种通过物体触摸屏幕的触摸屏输入装置,其包括布置在导电范围内的电容电极阵列。随着便携计算装置尺寸的减小,可用于布置电极的空间通常减小。例如,随着电路组件被更紧密地封装到一起,通常需要利用电路板上的所有可用空间。因此,对于电极处于单一层中的传统布置,在该层的区域需要被用于其他的装置模块(诸如视频处理器或声卡),或者该层与装置的其他组件(例如输入插座)实体地相干涉的情况下,可能是有问题的。因此,用于这些装置的输入装置的设计可能因节约有限的空间量而受到约束。
发明内容
本公开在一个实施例中涉及电容传感器。电容传感器可以包括柔性电路和衬底。该衬底可以面向柔性电路的表面并且由玻璃、塑料、陶瓷或聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(PET)材料等制成。在示例性实施例中,衬底具有小于100欧姆/平方面积(ohms/square)的表面电阻。电容传感器也包括至少一个形成在衬底上的电极以及至少一个形成在柔性电路上的电极。所形成的电极可以被涂、印刷或溅射到衬底上。
在一个实施例中,柔性电路可以包括切口。切口可以包括从柔性电路上切掉的区域、被其他电路模块所占据的区域或者以其他方式不能用于在柔性电路上放置电极的区域。为了建造连续的电极布置,电极形成在与切口的区域重叠的衬底上,以补充布置在柔性电路上的电极。
根据另一个实施例,电极可以被布置为以第一线性布置(arrangement)而布置的第一组电极和以第二线性布置而布置的第二组电极。例如,电极可以被布置为行和列。每一行内的所有电极可以相互电连接,每一列内的所有电极可以相互电连接。在衬底与柔性电路的切口相重叠的区域中,可以布置至少一个电极,以与柔性电路的一个或多个电极排列起来并电连接。
根据实施例,柔性电路可以包括电极的阵列。每个电极可以独立地连接到布置在衬底的下表面上的迹线,使得可以确认施加到任何一个电极的输入。柔性电路可以包括切口。因此,一组电极可以形成在切口上方的衬底上,以连续的图案补充柔性电路的电极布置。
根据另一个实施例,电极可以分类为以第一线性布置布置在柔性电路上的第一组电极,以及以第二线性布置布置在柔性电路上的第二组电极。例如,电极可以被布置为形成在柔性电路的表面上的行以及形成在衬底的相对表面上的列,反之亦然。绝缘材料层可以形成在行和列之间。在本实施例中,行电极和列电极形成类似于上述实施例的互电容。

具体实施方式
以下通过参照图1a到图12讨论各种实施例。但是,本领域的技术人员将会容易地认识到这里参照这些附图而给出的详细的描述是为了示例性目的,因为实质性内容延伸到这些有限的实施例之外。
图1a描绘了根据示例性实施例的电容传感器的柔性电路100的透视图。柔性电路100为一种用于安装电子装置的柔性电路或柔性电路板(诸如柔性高性能塑料衬底)。柔性电路100的示例包括聚酰亚胺和聚醚醚酮(PEEK)膜。可以使用用于刚性印刷电路板的相同成分制作柔性电路100,使得板可以符合期望的形状或在使用中弯曲。
柔性电路100可以包括布置在柔性电路100的第一表面上的行电极112的若干行102以及列电极114的若干列104。导电电极112和114可以被布置为双菱形图案,其中所有的行电极112在每个行102内电连接并且所有的列电极114在每个列104内电连接。
可以在竖向上通过位于两个中途的列电极114之间的区域116连接两个相邻的行电极112。区域116分隔两个列电极114,但是包括导电材料以电连接行电极112。在示例性实施例中,区域116可以非常小,例如0.1mm宽。区域116可以被构造为使得它在电连接行电极112的同时,在竖向电隔离列电极114。如图1b所示,由区域116所分隔的列电极114可以通过布置在柔性电路100的第二表面上的电图案120电连接。电图案通过穿透柔性电路100的过孔118连接到列电极。
除了柔性电路100,电容传感器也可以包括面向柔性电路100布置的衬底。衬底的第一表面构成电容传感器的传感表面。该衬底可以由诸如玻璃、塑料、聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(PET)、陶瓷或其他材料的各种材料制成。在示例实施例中,衬底材料具有小于100欧姆/平方面积的表面电阻(sheet resistance)。衬底可以足够薄以允许诸如人的指尖的物体接触或靠近衬底的第一表面以与电极112、114形成电容。
根据一个实施例,可以基于自电容操作电容传感器。在自电容中,可以例如测量单一电极相对于地的“自身”电容。在示例实施例中,施加到衬底上的输入(诸如手指接触或靠近衬底的表面)可以形成双极板电容器的第二个极板。手指有效地电容耦合到下电极,由此将手指下方的电极的电容改变某一小量。在某些情况下,电容的改变可以为1-2%的数量级。控制器或处理器可以连续地测量栅格中的每个电极的电容。当控制器或处理器在栅格中某一点处的电极中探测到电容增加时,手指的位置被定位。在示例性实施例中,电极的每行和每列都可以被连续地监视以测量电容。自电容的详细说明在美国专利申请公开No.2006/0290677中提供,其全部内容通过引用结合在这里。
根据替换实施例,电容传感器可以基于互电容来工作。在互电容中,测量至少两个电极之间的互电容。在示例性实施例中,每个行电极和与其相邻的列电极形成互电容。通过驱动电路周期地驱动行,并且在列电极上传感从行电极释放到列电极的电荷。当输入被施加到表面时(诸如手指触摸或与表面紧密相邻),施加到表面的输入带走一部分将要被释放到接触点附近的行电极的电荷。因此,通过传感被驱动的行和载有小于预期的电荷的列,可以判定指尖的接触位置。
行电极112和列电极114可以通过柔性电路100上的分隔件110相互电隔离。在电极基于互电容来工作的情况下,分隔件110可以包括介电材料以在电极112与114之间提供更大的电容。在使用自电容的情况下,分隔件110可以包括具有相对高的介电常数的绝缘材料,以最小化电极112与114之间的短路。可选择地,柔性电路100自身在各个电极之间提供充分的绝缘。
根据实施例,当试图减小包括图1a的柔性电路100的计算装置的尺寸时,所有电极112和114在柔性电路100上的布置可能与柔性电路100上的其他电路相干涉。例如,柔性电路100的第一表面的一部分区域可能以电极102和104不能直接地放置在柔性电路100的该区域上的方式,由电路模块所占据。同样,在一些情况下,柔性电路100的一部分可能需要被用于为其他装置组件腾出空间。例如,在采用柔性电路100的紧凑多媒体装置中,可能需要实体地切开柔性电路的一部分,以为输入插座腾出空间。在这些情况下,可以在柔性电路上引入专用于布置电极102和104的新的层。但是,这样做将需要增加装置的高度,这可能对于许多这样的输入装置是不期望的。
因此,根据实施例,为了不增加装置的尺寸而最大化地使用柔性电路的第一表面,可以在剩余电极形成在衬底的相对表面上的同时,在柔性电路的第一表面上形成一个或多个电极。当在制作处理期间将柔性电路和衬底放置到一起时,布置在衬底和柔性电路上的电极可以排列到一起,以实现与图1a中示出的图案类似的所期望的图案。
可以使用各种不同的方法以将电极布置在衬底上。例如,可以使用导电涂料将电极涂在衬底上或使用导电墨水将电极印刷在衬底上。可选择地,导电材料可以被溅射到衬底上以获得电极。在一些实施例中,绝缘材料也可以形成在电极之间,以在电极之间产生更有效的电容。同样,一旦形成了电极,绝缘材料的其它层可以形成在电极上,以在除了衬底电极需要与下方电极具有电接触的区域之外的区域进一步将电极从下方的电路或其他下方的模块隔离开。
图2a示出了具有切口202的示例性柔性电路200。虽然在本实施例中,切口202示出为被切掉,但是切口也可以指没有实体地从柔性电路切掉、而由其他的电路模块占据的部分或者通过其他方式而在柔性电路上不能用于放置电极的部分。例如,切口202可以包括柔性电路202的被电路模块所占据的区域。此外,虽然描绘的切口为矩形并且位于柔性电路的边界附近,但是切口可以为任何形状,并且可以位于柔性电路上的任何位置。在各种实施例中,切口可以取代柔性电路上的传感电极的图案的一部分。
如图2b所示,为了获得完整的传感电极的图案,从柔性电路上的电极图案转移(displace)的电极可以形成在面向柔性电路200的衬底210的表面上。除了在柔性电路200上没有对应电极的下部三角电极之外,行电极212和列电极214对应于布置在柔性电路200上切口202的边界处的电极208a-208c的缺失部分。衬底的区域216对应于柔性电路200的切口202。在一个实施例中,在形成电极212、214之后,衬底的区域216可以被绝缘材料层覆盖以防止电极212、214与放置在切口202内的任何模块之间的电短路。
为了将行电极212和列电极214分别电连接到柔性电路200的行102和列104,可以为柔性电路200进一步提供柔性电路200的电极208a-208c上的触点204。因此,当在制作处理期间衬底210面向柔性电路200放置时,在衬底电极212、214与电极208a-208c之间分别造成电连接。可选择地,触点204可以形成在衬底210上,之后连接到208a-208c。在另一个实施例中,行电极212和列电极214可以被构造为使得它们覆盖电极208a-208c的整个表面并建立与电极208a-208c的电连接,而不需要触点204。
为了确保下部的列电极214电连接到上部列电极214,在水平方向上在两个行电极212之间提供区域218。导电材料布置在区域218上,以便于在使行电极212电绝缘的同时,连接列电极214。为了电连接行电极212,可以为柔性电路上的行102的两侧提供电连通性,使得电极208a、208b都电连接到相同的行,而不需要产生从电极208a到电极208b的直接连接。可选择地,如图2a和图2c所示,经由两个过孔206,电极208a、208b可以经由布置在柔性衬底200的第二表面上的导电图案220连接到一起,所述过孔206穿过柔性电路200将电极208a、208b连接到导电图案220。

如前所述,使用图1a中示出的柔性电路的触摸传感器可以通过自电容或互电容工作。图6描绘了根据示例性实施例的使用互电容的替换形式的电容传感器的柔性电路600的透视图。在此实施例中,多个行电极612被设置为与多个列电极614交叉。每个行电极612与每个列电极614的重叠构成了电容器616。绝缘层(未示出)可以设置在重叠区域处,以增加电容器616的电容。可以经由控制单元周期地驱动行602以为电容616充电,并且随着电容616放电,通过传感单元监视列604的电压。只要没有输入被施加到衬底的表面,可以在列604处预期到预定的电压。但是,如果输入被施加到衬底的表面,它可以在一个或多个邻近的电容616处偷走一部分电荷,导致由传感单元在相应的列604上传感到较低的电压。基于被驱动的行602和与预料相比具有较低电荷的列604,传感单元可以判定接触的位置。
图7a示出了具有切口702的示例性柔性电路70。切口702代替或阻止以连续的图案放置电极712、714。因此,如图7b所示,由于切口702而不能被放置在柔性电路700上的电极712、714的一部分,以电极712、714的图案一致的连续的方式,形成在朝向柔性电路700的衬底710的表面上。行电极722和列电极724对应于柔性电路700的电极712、714。区域716也对应于柔性电路700的切口702。在一个实施例中,区域716可以被绝缘材料所覆盖,以防止电极722、724与放置在切口702内部的任何模块之间电短路。此外,绝缘材料718的层可以设置在电极722与电极724之间。
根据实施例,可以通过在柔性电路上形成所有的行电极以及在朝向柔性电路的衬底的表面上形成所有的列,来获得图6中示出的电极的布置。绝缘层也形成在行电极上。其后,衬底被放置在绝缘层上,使得行和列的重叠产生触摸传感电容。
图8提供了根据此实施例的电容传感器的截面图。如图8所示,行电极812形成在柔性电路800上,列电极814形成在衬底810的朝向柔性电路800的表面上。绝缘层818设置在行电极812与列电极814之间。因为在此实施例中,行电极不需要被蚀刻在柔性电路上,本实施例简化了接触传感器的制作过程。
图9a示出了根据另一个实施例的电容传感器的圆形柔性电路900的透视图。根据本实施例,柔性电路900包括布置在柔性电路900的第一表面上的电极902a-902n。电极902a-902n中的每个都包括从电极902a-902n到柔性电路900的第二表面的过孔904。如图9b所示,柔性电路900的第二表面包括迹线906,每根迹线都经由过孔904中的一者独立地连接到电极902a-902n中的一者。衬底(未示出)放置在柔性电路900的第一表面上,其中衬底可以由例如玻璃、塑料、PET材料、陶瓷或其他材料制成。连接到迹线906的控制器或处理器可以追踪施加到衬底表面的输入(诸如指尖)的位置。
图10a描绘了环形柔性电路1000的透视图,其中切口1004表示柔性电路1000的被实体方式移除的部分或者是柔性电路100的由另一个模块所占据的部分。如图10b所示,为了获得如图9a所示的完整的电极图案,在柔性电路1000上可能已占据了切口区域1004的电极形成在衬底1010的表面上,以完成电极图案。电极1012a、1012j、1012k和1012n分别对应于并连接到电极1002a、1002j、1002k和1002n,其中所有的电极1002a、1002j、1002k和1002n都被从柔性电路100上切下来。区域1014可以由绝缘材料覆盖,以防止电极1012a、1012j、1012k和1012n与柔性电路1000的切口1004内部的任何模块之间电短路。
图11示出了根据一个方面的计算系统1039的简化的框图的示例。计算系统可以大体上包括可操作地连接到计算装置1042的输入装置1040。举例来说,计算装置1042可以对应于计算机、PDA、媒体播放器等。如所示,输入装置1040可以包括大体上对应于电容传感器1044的输入装置1040以及一个或多个运动探测器1046,该电容传感器1044可以对应于上述实施例中的任何一个。电容传感器1044可以被构造为产生追踪信号,运动探测器1046可以被构造为当电容传感器被压下时产生运动信号。虽然在本实施例中,电容传感器1044可以广泛地变化,但是电容传感器1044可以包括电容传感器1048和控制系统1050(大致对应于上述传感器、控制器),其中控制系统1050用于从传感器1048获得位置信号并将该信号提供给计算装置1042。控制系统1050可以包括专用集成电路(ASIC),该ASIC构造为监视来自传感器1048的信号、计算所监视的信号的绝对位置、角度位置、方向、速度和/或加速度、并且将该信息报告给计算装置1042的处理器。运动探测器1046也可以广泛地变化。然而,在本实施例中,运动探测器1046可以采取当电容传感器1044被压下时产生运动信号的开关的形式。运动探测器1046可以对应于机械、电学、或光学类型开关。在一个特定实施方式中,运动探测器1046可以为机械类型开关,其包括可以被电容传感器1044推动以产生运动信号的凸起的致动器1052。举例来说,开关可以为轻触(tact)开关或穹顶(dome)开关。
可以通过通信接口1054将电容传感器1044和运动探测器1046可操作地连接到计算装置1042。通信接口提供用于在输入装置与电子装置之间直接或间接连接的连接点。通信接口1054可以为有线的(电线、电缆、连接器)或无线的(例如,发射器/接收器)。
对于计算装置1042,它可以包括处理器1057(例如,CPU或微处理器),该处理器1057被构造为执行命令并执行与计算装置1042有关的操作。例如,使用从存储器中取回的命令,处理器可以控制计算装置1042的组件之间的输入和输出的数据的接收和处理。处理器1057可以被构造为接收来自运动探测器1046和电容传感器1044的输入,并且可以形成基于这些输入的信号/命令。在大部分情况下,处理器1057可以在操作系统或其他软件的控制下执行命令。处理器1057可以为单芯片处理器或者可以由多个组件实现。
计算装置1042也可以包括可以可操作地连接到处理器1057的输入/输出(I/O)控制器1056。(I/O)控制器1056可以与处理器1057结合为一体,或者可以为如图所示的独立组件。I/O控制器1056通常可以被构造为控制与可以连接到计算装置1042的一个或多个I/O装置(例如输入装置1040和诸如加速度计的方位探测器1055)的交互。I/O控制器1056可以通常通过在计算装置1042与期望和计算装置1042通信的I/O装置之间交换数据来工作。
计算装置1042也可以包括可以可操作地连接到处理器1057的显示控制器1058。显示控制器1058可以与处理器1057结合为一体或者可以如所示为独立的组件。显示控制器1058可以被构造为处理显示命令,以在显示屏1060上产生文本或图像。举例来说,显示屏1060可以为单色显示器、彩色图形适配器(CGA)显示器、增强图形适配器(EGA)显示器、可变图形阵列(VGA)显示器、超VGA显示器、液晶显示器(例如,有源矩阵、无源矩阵等)、阴极射线管(CRT)、等离子显示器等。在示出的实施例中,显示装置对应于液晶显示器(LCD)。
在大部分情况下,处理器1057与操作系统一同工作,以执行计算机代码并产生和使用数据。计算机代码和数据可以存在于可操作地连接到处理器1057的程序储存区域1062内。程序储存区域1062通常可以提供空间,以保存可以被计算装置1042使用的数据。举例来说,程序储存区域可以包括只读存储器(ROM)、随机存取存储器(RAM)、硬盘驱动器和/或类似物等。计算机代码和数据也可以存在于可移动程序介质上并在需要时载入或安装到计算装置上。在一个实施例中,程序储存区域1062可以被构造为储存下述信息:所述信息用于控制如何可以由例如计算装置1042使用由输入装置所产生的追踪信号和运动信号(不管单独使用还是结合使用),以产生诸如单键按压的输入事件命令。
图12描绘了根据实施例的用于制造电容传感器的示例性工艺流程图1200。过程1200可以以块1202开始,以初始化制作过程。例如,过程1200可以确定衬底的如前所述与柔性电路中的切口相重叠的区域。之后,过程1200可以在柔性电路的表面上形成一个或多个电极(块1204)。过程1200也可以在衬底的表面上形成至少一个电极(块1206)。形成在衬底上的电极可以被形成在衬底上确定与切口重叠的区域内。绝缘层也可以形成在第一组电极上或者第二组电极上,使得当柔性电路和衬底放置在一起时,绝缘层布置在第一组电极与第二组电极之间。柔性电路和衬底之后被放置在一起,使得柔性电路电极和衬底电极被牢固地定位在柔性电路与衬底之间(块1208)。过程1200之后可以在块1210结束。
虽然已经描述了各种实施例,但是存在落入权利要求的范围内的变更、置换和等价形式。应该注意到存在许多可选择的方式以执行所公开的方法和设备。因此,权利要求应当被解释为包括所有的变更、置换和等价形式。

Claims (8)

1.一种电容传感器,包括:
柔性电路,所述柔性电路具有表面,
衬底,所述衬底具有表面,以及
与所述柔性电路的表面相关联的第一多个电极,
与所述衬底的表面相关联的第二多个电极,
当所述衬底与所述柔性电路呈面向关系时,与所述衬底的表面相关联的至少一个电极和与所述柔性电路的表面相关联的至少一个电极电耦合,其中第一多个电极和第二多个电极两者均被配置为传感与所述衬底相关联的输入。
2.根据权利要求1所述的电容传感器,其中,所述衬底包括玻璃、塑料、陶瓷或聚对苯二甲酸乙二酯(PET)材料中的至少一种。
3.根据权利要求1所述的电容传感器,其中,所述衬底的特性在于其具有小于100欧姆/平方面积的表面电阻。
4.根据权利要求2所述的电容传感器,其中,经由涂、印刷或溅射中的至少一种而形成所述第二多个电极。
5.根据权利要求1所述的电容传感器,其中,
所述第一多个电极彼此电耦合,
所述第二多个电极彼此电耦合,并且
当所述衬底与所述柔性电路呈面向关系时,所述第一多个电极和所述第二多个电极相互垂直。
6.根据权利要求1所述的电容传感器,包括在所述第一多个电极与所述第二多个电极之间的绝缘层。
7.一种制作电容传感器的方法,包括:
在柔性电路的表面上形成第一多个电极,
在衬底的表面上形成第二多个电极,以及
将所述衬底和所述柔性电路布置为呈面向关系,其中所述第一多个电极与所述第二多个电极被定位在所述衬底与所述柔性电路之间,
电耦合所述第一多个电极的至少一个电极与所述第二多个电极的至少一个电极,
其中所述第一多个电极与所述第二多个电极两者均被配置为感测与所述衬底相关联的输入。
8.一种电容传感器,包括:
柔性电路,所述柔性电路包括表面,
衬底,所述衬底包括表面,以及
多个导电电极,所述多个导电电极至少包括第一电极和第二电极,所述第一电极与衬底表面相关联,而所述第二电极与柔性电路表面相关联,
所述第一电极和所述第二电极被配置为当所述衬底与所述柔性电路呈面向关系时电耦合,其中所述第一电极和所述第二电极两者均被配置为传感与所述衬底相关联的输入。
