Abstract

A water transportation system and method are described, generally related to water amusement attractions and rides. Further, the disclosure generally relates to water-powered rides and to a system and method in which participants may be actively involved in a water attraction. This transportation system comprises at least two water stations and at least one water channel connecting the at least two water stations for the purpose of conveying participants between the at least two water stations. In addition, the water transportation system may include conveyor belt systems and water locks configured to convey participants from a first source of water to a second source of water which may or may not be at a different elevation.

Claims (52)

1. A water amusement system, comprising:
a first water amusement ride;
a second water amusement ride; and an elevation system configured to convey at least one flexible inflated vehicle from an exit point of the first water amusement ride to an entry point of the second water amusement ride, wherein the exit point of the first ride and the entry point of the second ride are at different elevation levels.
2. The system of claim 1, wherein the water ride comprises at least one water releasing mechanism configured to inject water onto a surface of the first and second water amusement rides such that a body of flowing water is produced on the surface of the first and second water amusement rides.
3. The system of any of claims 1-2, wherein an exit point of the second water amusement ride and an entry point of the first water amusement ride are coupled to each other.
4. The system of claim 3, further comprising a second elevation system configured to convey at least one flexible inflated vehicle from the exit point of the second water amusement ride to the entry point of the first water amusement ride.
5. The system of any of claims 3-4, further comprising a third water amusement ride, wherein an exit point of the third ride is coupled to the exit of the second water ride, and wherein an entry point of the third ride is coupled to the entry point of the first ride.
6. The system of claim 5, wherein the exit point of the third ride is coupled to the exit of the second water ride with a body of water, and wherein an entry point of the third ride is coupled to the entry point of the first ride with a body of water.
7. The system of any of claims 1-6, further comprising a floating queue line coupled to an entry point of at least one of the water amusement rides.
8. The system of claim 7, wherein the floating queue line comprises a queue line channel wherein the queue line channel is configured to hold water at a depth sufficient to allow a flexible inflated vehicle to float within the queue line channel during use, and wherein the floating queue line is coupled to the first and/or second water amusement rides such that a flexible inflated vehicle remains in the water while being transferred from the channel along the floating queue line to the first and/or second water amusement rides.
9. The system of any of claims 1-8, wherein the elevation system comprises a water slide.
10. The system of any of claims 1-9, wherein the elevation system comprises an uphill water slide.
11. The system of any of claims 1-10, wherein the elevation system comprises a water lock system comprising:
a chamber for holding water, the chamber being coupled to the exit point of the first water ride and the entry point of the second water ride;
a first movable member formed in a wall of the chamber, the first movable member being positioned to allow the flexible inflated vehicle and water to move between the exit point of the first water ride and the chamber when the first movable member is open during use; and a second movable member formed in the wall of the chamber, the second movable member being positioned to allow the flexible inflated vehicle and water to move between the entry point of the second water ride and the chamber when the second movable member is open during use.
12. The system of any of claims 1-11, wherein the elevation system comprises a water lock system comprising:
a chamber for holding water, the chamber being coupled to the exit point of the first water ride and the entry point of the second water ride;
a first movable member formed in a wall of the chamber, the first movable member being positioned to allow the flexible inflated vehicle and water to move between the exit point of the first water ride and the chamber when the first movable member is open during use;
a second movable member formed in the wall of the chamber, the second movable member being positioned to allow the flexible inflated vehicle and water to move between the entry point of the second water ride and the chamber when the second movable member is open during use;
and a bottom member positioned within the chamber, wherein the bottom member is positionable below the upper surface of water within the chamber during use.
13. The system of any of claims 1-12, wherein the elevation system comprises a conveyor belt system.
14. A method of transporting participants in a water amusement system, comprising the system of any of the above claims.
15. A convertible water amusement system, comprising:
at least one water amusement area;
a channel, wherein at least a portion of the channel is coupled to at least a portion of the water amusement area; and one or more screens positionable to substantially enclose at least a portion of the channel.
16. The system of claim 15, wherein at least a portion of at least one of the screens is retractable, and wherein when at least a portion of one or more screens is in a retracted position such that at least a portion of the channel is uncovered.
17. The system of any of claims 15-16, further comprising at least a second water amusement area.
18. The system of any of claims 15-17, further comprising at least two water amusement areas, wherein at least a portion of the channel couples the two water amusement areas.
19. The system of any of claims 15-18, wherein at least a portion of at least one of the screens is substantially translucent to at least a portion of the visible spectrum of light.
20. The system of any of claims 15-19, wherein at least a portion of at least one of the screens are substantially translucent to at least a portion of the visible spectrum of light while inhibiting transmittance of at least a portion of ultraviolet light.
21. The system of any of claims 15-20, wherein at least one water amusement area comprises one or more water amusement rides.
22. The system of any of claims 15-21, wherein the water amusement area is substantially enclosed.
23. The system of any of claims 15-22, wherein the channel comprises a portion of a river.
24. The system of any of claims 15-23, wherein the screen comprises polycarbonate.
25. The system of any of claims 15-24, wherein at least a portion of the screen is configured to collect at least some solar radiation such that an ambient temperature is increased in at least portions of an enclosed channel.
26. The system of any of claims 15-25, wherein enclosed portions of a channel may be configured to function as a heat sink.
27. The system of any of claims 15-26, further comprising:
a power source coupled to at least one of the screens, wherein the power source is configured to position at least one of the screens; and a control system coupled to the power source configured to at least activate the power source, wherein at least a portion of the control system is automated.
28. A method of enclosing at least a portion of a water amusement system, comprising positioning the system of any of claims 15-27 over at least a portion of a water amusement system.
29. A water amusement system, comprising a participant identifier remotely coupled to the water amusement system, wherein the participant identifier is configured to identify a participant in a water amusement system, and wherein at least a portion of the water amusement system coupled to the participant identifier is automated.
30. The system of claim 29, wherein the participant identifier is configured to generate at least one signal to operate one or more portions of the water amusement system.
31. The system of claim 30, wherein the signal is generated automatically.
32. The system of any of claims 30-31, wherein the signal is generated automatically in response to a second signal from a portion of the water amusement system.
33. The system of any of claims 30-32, wherein the signal is generated upon input from the participant.
34. The system of any of claims 30-33, wherein the signal generated is substantially unique to the participant identifier at least within the water amusement system.
35. The system of any of claims 30-34, wherein the signal is a radio frequency signal.
36. The system of any one of claims 29-35, wherein the participant identifier is configured to be removably coupled to the participant.
37. The system of any one of claims 29-36, wherein the participant identifier is configured to assess a location of a participant in the water amusement system.
38. The system of any one of claims 29-37, wherein the participant is associated with a vehicle, and wherein the system further comprises:
at least one sensor coupled to the water amusement system, wherein at least one of the sensors is configurable to detect the participant identifier at least in an area associated with the sensor; and at least one control system coupled to at least one of the sensors, wherein at least one of the control systems is coupled to at least a portion of the water amusement system, and wherein at least one of the control systems is configurable to assess a number of participants associated with a vehicle.
39. The system of claim 38, wherein the portion of the water amusement system comprises a water amusement ride.
40. The system of any of claims 38-39, wherein the portion of the water amusement system comprises a floating queue line.
41. The system of any of claims 38-40, wherein the portion of the water amusement system comprises an elevation system.
42. The system of claim 41, wherein the elevation system comprises a water lock system.
43. The system of any of claims 41-42, wherein the elevation system comprises an uphill water slide.
44. The system of any of claims 41-43, wherein the elevation system comprises a conveyor belt system.
45. The system of any of claims 38-44, wherein the vehicle comprises a vehicle identifier.
46. The system of any of claims 30-45, wherein the signal at least temporarily inhibits operation of at least a portion of the water amusement system.
47. The system of claim 46, wherein the portion of the water amusement system comprises at least the area associated with the sensor.
48. The system of any of claims 46-47, wherein the portion of the water amusement system comprises at least the area associated with the sensor and a second area comprising participants moving in a direction substantially toward the area associated with the sensor.
49. A method of identifying a participant in a water amusement system, comprising locating the participant using the system of any of claims 29-48.
50. A water amusement system, comprising:
a first water amusement ride;
a second water amusement ride; and an elevation system configured to convey at least one vehicle from an exit point of the first water amusement ride to an entry point of the second water amusement ride.
51. A convertible water amusement system, comprising:
a channel; and one or more screens positionable to substantially enclose at least a portion of the channel.
52. A water amusement system, comprising a participant identifier remotely coupled to the water amusement system.
