Abstract
A stent comprising a serpentine portion extending about the circumference of the stent, the serpentine portion having a first end and a second end, the serpentine portion having a plurality of turns at the first end and a plurality of turns at the second end and struts extending therebetween, at least one of the turns at the first end, at least one of the turns at the second end, at least one of the struts therebetween, or some combination thereof having a plurality of shaped recesses thereon.
Claims (28)
1. A stent comprising a strut having a first side and a second side, each side having alternating crests and troughs wherein the crests of said first side of said strut align with the troughs of said second side of said strut, said strut having at least one adjacent strut having a first side and a second side, each side having alternating crests and troughs wherein the crests of said first side of said at least one adjacent strut align with said troughs of said second side of said at least one adjacent strut, and said crests of said first side of said strut align with said crests of said second side of said adjacent strut and said troughs of said first side of said strut align with said troughs of said second side of said adjacent strut.
2. The stent of Claim 1 wherein said strut has a wave-like pattern.
3. The stent of Claim 1 wherein said at least one adjacent strut has a wave-like pattern.
4. The stent of Claim 1 having at least one shaped recess located between at least one crest and trough of said strut.
5. The stent of Claim 1 having shaped recesses located between the crests and troughs of said strut and said adjacent strut.
6. The stent of Claim 4 wherein said at least one shaped recess is an elongated ellipsoid.
7. The stent of Claim 4 wherein said at least one shaped recess has a substantially circular shape.
8. The stent of Claim 4 wherein said at least one shaped recess contains a therapeutic agent.
9. The stent of Claim 10 wherein said therapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of genetic material, growth factors, antineoplastics, antimitotics, anti-inflammatories, antiplatelets, anticoagulants, antifibrins, antithrombins, antiproliferatives, antibiotics, antioxidants, and antiallergenic substances.
10. The stent of Claim 9 wherein said therapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of genetic material, growth factors, antineoplastics, antimitotics, anti-inflammatories, antiplatelets, anticoagulants, antifibrins, antithrombins, antiproliferatives, antibiotics, antioxidants, and antiallergenic substances.
11. A stent comprising a serpentine portion extending about the circumference of the stent, the serpentiile portion having a first end and a second end, the serpentine portion having a plurality of turns at the first end and a plurality of turns at the second end and struts extending therebetween, at least one of the turns at the first end, at least one of the turns at the second end, at least one of the struts therebetween, or some combination thereof having a plurality of shaped recesses thereon.
12. The stent of Claim 11 wherein said shaped recesses are substantially circular.
13. The stent of Claim 11 wherein a plurality of said struts have a plurality of shapeded recesses thereon and a plurality of turns have a plurality of shaped recesses thereon.
14. The stent of Claim 11 wherein each turn at each end of each serpentine portion has a plurality of shaped recesses thereon.
15. The stent of Claim 11 having a plurality of shaped recesses having substantially circular and elongated ellipsoid shapes.
16. The stent of Claim 11 wherein each of said at least some of said turns at said first end, each of said some of said turns at said second end, and each of said some of said struts have a plurality of shaped recesses thereon.
17. The stent of Claim 16 wherein said shaped recess has a substantially circular shape.
18. The stent of Claim 17 further in combination with elongated ellipsoid shaped recesses.
19. The stent of Claim 11 wherein said shaped recesses contain a therapeutic agent.
20. The stent of Claim 19 wherein said therapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of genetic material, growth factors, antineoplastics, antimitotics, anti-inflammatories, antiplatelets, anticoagulants, antifibrins, antithrombins, antiproliferatives, antibiotics, antioxidants, and antiallergenic substances.
21. A stent comprising a serpentine portion extending about the circumference of the stmt, the serpentine portion having a first end and a second end, the serpentine portion having a plurality of turns at the first end and a plurality of turns at the second end and struts extending therebetween wherein at least some of said struts have at least one shaped recess thereon, said shaped recess smaller in dimension than said struts while the turns are free of shaped recesses.
22. The stent of Claim 21 wherein at least some of said turns at the first end, at least some of the turns at the second end, or some combination thereof have at least one shaped recess thereon.
23. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said shaped recess is an elongated ellipsoid.
24. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said shaped recess has a substantially circular shape.
25. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said at least some of said struts have more than one shaped recess thereon.
26. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said at least some of said turns at said first end, some of said turns at said second end, or some combination thereof have more than one shaped recess thereon.
27. The stent of Claim 26 wherein said shaped recess has a substantially circular shape.
28. The stent of Claim 27 wherein said shaped recess has a substantially circular shape.
30. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said at least one shaped recess contains a therapeutic agent.
31. The stent of Claim 30 wherein said therapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of genetic material, growth factors, antineoplastics, antimitotics, anti-inflammatories, antiplatelets, anticoagulants, antifibrins, antithrombins, antiproliferatives, antibiotics, antioxidants, and antiallergenic substances.
30. The stent of Claim 21 wherein said at least one shaped recess contains a therapeutic agent.
31. The stent of Claim 30 wherein said therapeutic agent is selected from the group consisting of genetic material, growth factors, antineoplastics, antimitotics, anti-inflammatories, antiplatelets, anticoagulants, antifibrins, antithrombins, antiproliferatives, antibiotics, antioxidants, and antiallergenic substances.
