Judging process
Stage 1: National Contest
Groups
The competition is open to all students attending a school in the UK between the ages of 4 and 17. Doodles will be judged in the following four age brackets:
- 4-7 years old
- 8-11 years old
- 12-14 years old
- 15-17 years old
Judging Process
480 Regional Semi-Finalists
- 10 semi-finalists will be chosen for each age group in each of the 12 UK regions: Eastern England, North West, North East, East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, South East, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Yorkshire & Humberside.
- Prizes: Doodle 4 Google certificate
Regional Finalists
- 48 regional finalists will be chosen across the age groups and regions.
- Prizes: Framed copy of their doodle, 10 doodles to be displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website for public vote, Doodle 4 Google goody bag.
National Age Group Winners
- The public will be asked to vote online for their favourite doodle from each age group, to help select the four national winners.
- Prizes: Laptop for the winner.
1 National Winner
- Prizes: The winning doodle will be hosted on Google’s homepage at www.google.co.uk for 24 hours. The winner will also receive a great prize for their school.
Stage 2: One International Winner
The public will be invited to vote for their favourite doodle from all the national winners, to choose the global winner.
Global winner prize:
- The global winning doodle will be displayed on the Google homepage in all participating countries for 24 hours on 11th July 2010.
- The winner will win a holiday to South Africa offered by South Africa Tourism Board (The trip is for 4 people including one adult, for nine nights, and includes international flights, domestic transportation and accommodation).
Runner-up prize:
- The runner-up will win 2 VIP tickets to a Premiere League football match in the UK offered by Sports New Media, including international flights, domestic transportation and accommodation in the city where the match takes place.
Judging criteria
A judging panel of Googlers in each participating country will evaluate the doodle entries based on the following criteria:
- Artistic merit – based on age, drawing skills and use of colour.
- Creativity – based on the representation of the I love football theme and use of the Google logo.
- “I love football” communication – how well the artist’s concept of the theme is expressed.
- Supporting title and statement – how well the artist explains his/her love of football.
- The doodle must not show any representation, logo or symbol of a specific country or a team or a sporting event such as: All football teams badges, any country flags, any football tournaments symbols or logos. (Such doodles will be disqualified to compete).
