Re: Michael Cummings - Apr 8, 2009: I have the same problem! in the last 10 minutes, I have set Pretoria at least 5 times as the default location, but it jumps every time back to San Francisco. Can anybody help out there?? freddy1@telkomsa.net
Having this gadget in iGoogle has proven to be useful for me as whenever I come across a new place I have the habit of finding out where it is actually in a map. But I wish directions was also included in this one....
Why does this thing always default to San Francisco? No matter how many times I change the default setting it goes right back to San Francisco. I see I'm not the only person this does this to. Does anyone know how to change the default permanently?
I have the Google map on my home page in iGoogle, and it shows the the traffic when I click the button in the top right corner. It works some of the time--but it is not up to date as to the traffic congestion here on Anna Maria Island on a Saturday like today. We are bumper to bumper as of 6:00 PM, and the traffic map shows it as "all clear". So is there a way to "update" this very useful gadget? Please answer if you will to -- jhorigan@gmail.com Thanks
I was wondering lots of the same things below - my sincere thanks to Ms. Koncsol and any others who go to the trouble of instructing luddites like me. And I especially enjoy reading open commentaries like this one, because you never know when you might inadvertantly run across someone able to explain things when someone else has got it "compleatly wrong." Also, the great-great grandson of a JP in several different counties who never moved may need to find a crick might be unable to get a hiking guide or visit the county seat to look at the appropriate topographic map. HEY GOOGLE DUDES! There must be some way to demonstrate Jalepeno Peppers in relation to the time-space continuum on your internet maps! Are you guys compleat dummies?
To have the mape default to your own map there is a button on the right corner... go to menu . edit. and type in the location you want your map to be on.
Is ther any way to sync your personal maps from Google maps to your IGoogle homepage? This way you can have your marked places on your homepage
I use maps for genealogy... - Anonymous - Mar 28, 2009 - Report this comment
It would be helpful to have different maps for different purposes. Not everybody is looking at a map just to find out how to get from here to there. Google maps do not give enough information. Many times I want to know the location of a river or stream. I would like to be able to see this in relation to the topography. That information is difficult to find. Also I would appreciate seeing maps over time. I would like to know where a particular county or state line is at a particular time. My great-great grandfather was a JP in several different counties but never moved. I would like to be able to demonstrate this. I would like to know what localities were called at different times. Things change and the information is not always easily available.

I have looked at my local area on google maps. I think it is really great to be able to zoom right in . However I have noticed the map is correct but the named area is compleatly wrong . Still at least if any one used it as a map , they could always ask a local, to find the correct place
I keep getting a message that says "The google maps API server rejected your request. Then talks about generating a new key. However, when I try that, the process requires a web address???? Help, please.
MS Contacts search for directions and create contact records with search results like mobile does. While in MS contacts click feature to take address info and find on map
This tool is good but missing Satelite View, untill it has this too its only half useful Also the Text box on the bottom will not allow right click copy/paste!
Having traffic conditions on Google Maps is helpful. However, your description of freeway traffic incidents fails to identify the direction of traffic that is affected. For example, a current incident on the Los Angeles Freeways simply states, "Incident on I-405 at Wilshire Blvd". But it FAILS to identify whether it is on the NORTHBOUND our SOUTHBOUND I-405! Without this directional information, your incident reports are far less helpful than they would be if you included such directional information. I hope you can incorporate that feature in the near future. Thank you. Started: Expected to end: Mar 8, 2009 5:37pm
