BioMed Realty Trust, Inc. is a real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on acquiring, developing, owning, leasing and managing laboratory and office space for the life science industry. The Company’s tenants include biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, scientific research institutions, government agencies and other entities involved in the life science industry. As of December 31, 2008, the Company’s portfolio consisted of 69 properties, which included 112 buildings with an aggregate of approximately 10.4 million rentable square feet, including 1.4 million square feet of development in progress. The Company also owned undeveloped land parcels adjacent to its existing properties. The Company’s properties are in markets established as centers for scientific research, including Boston, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York/New Jersey.
