Wessex Exploration PLC (Wessex) is a United Kingdom-based energy company. The Company is engaged in the exploration and development of hydrocarbon projects. Wessex holds exploration assets in the United Kingdom, French Guyane, and both off-shore and on-shore of the Western Sahara in northwest Africa. Wessex holds a net 1.25% interest in the Exclusive Exploration License (EEL) covering a 30,000 square kilometers off-shore area of Guyane. The Guyane EEL interest is held through a 50/50 joint venture between Wessex and Northern Petroleum plc (Northern), using Northpet Investments Limited as the holding company, with a total interest of 2.5% held. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010 (fiscal 2010), the Company completed the three dimension (3D) seismic survey on the Guyane Exclusive Exploration License. On August 31, 2009, Wessex acquired the remaining 50% holding in Maghreb Exploration Limited, thereby acquiring 100% interest.
