Vedanta Resources plc is a diversified metals and mining company. Its segments include zinc, iron ore, copper, aluminum, power and oil and gas. The aluminum business consists of bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminum smelting operations in India, and trading through the Bharat Aluminium Company Limited. The copper business includes a copper smelter, two refineries and two copper rod plants in India; one copper mine in Australia, and an integrated operation in Zambia comprising three mines. Its zinc-lead business includes zinc-lead mining and smelting operations in India. The Power segment consists of power plants. Effective August 12, 2013, Sesa Goa Ltd (Sesa), a 55.1%-owned unit of Vedanta Resources Plc (Vedanta) merged with Madras Aluminum Co Ltd, and concurrently, Sesa acquired Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd, 70.5% interest in Vedanta Aluminium Ltd and raised its interest to 59% from 20.17% by acquiring a 38.83% interest in Cairn India Ltd.
