Northern Electric plc is an investment holding company. The Company and its subsidiaries are engaged in the distribution of electricity in the United Kingdom by Northern Electric Distribution Limited (NEDL) and the provision of engineering contracting services by Integrated Utility Services Limited (IUS). NEDL serves an area of approximately 14,400 square kilometer in the north east of England, and receives electricity from the National Grid's transmission system and distributes it, at a voltage of up to 132 Kilo volts to approximately 1.6 million customers. IUS operates an engineering contracting business, which is divided into the three main streams. UK contracting provides design, construction and maintenance services. Rail focuses on providing a total service from feasibility to design, installation, commissioning and on-going maintenance. The Company covers an area of 25,000 square kilometres. Northern Powergrid is the main subsidiary of the Company.
