X5 Retail Group NV is a Netherlands-based company that acts as a holding company for a group of companies operating retail grocery stores. It is engaged in the development and operation of grocery retail stores, such as soft discounters, supermarkets and hypermarkets. As of December 31, 2011, the Company operated a retail chain of 3,002 stores under such brand names, as Pyaterochka, Perekrestok, Karusel, Pyaterochka-Maxi and Perekrestok-Express in Russia, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Kazan, Samara, Lipetsk and Chelyabinsk, among others, and Kiev, Ukraine. As of December 31, 2011, the Company operated 658 stores across Russia. As of December 31, 2011, the Company�s largest shareholder was Alfa Group Consortium, which held 47.86% of shares. As of December 31, 2011, the Company�s subsidiaries included Agroaspekt OOO, Alpegru Retail Properties Ltd., Perekrestok Holdings Ltd., Speak Global Ltd. and TD Kopeyka OAO, among others.
