Coal of Africa Limited (CoAL) is engaged in the acquisition, exploration and development of thermal and metallurgical coal projects in South Africa. The Company operates in three segments: Exploration, Development and Mining. The Exploration segment is involved in the search for resources suitable for commercial exploitation, and the determination of the technical feasibility and commercial viability of resources. The Development segment is engaged in establishing access to and commissioning facilities to extract, treat and transport production from the mineral reserve, and other preparations for commercial production.. The Mining segment is involved in day to day activities of obtaining a saleable product from the mineral reserve on a commercial scale. During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2012, it produced 4.930 million run of mine tons of thermal coal, mined at Vuna, Mooiplaats and Vele collieries . .
