Cairn Energy PLC (Cairn) is an independent oil and gas exploration and development company. It is organized into two business units: Cairn Energy Group and Cairn India Group. The Cairn Energy Group�s operations focuses on new exploration activities in Greenland and the Mediterranean. The Company�s Mediterranean and South Asia operating segments are combined into the Other Cairn Energy Group. The Company's South Asia business unit holds its interests in Nepal and a share in certain North Indian assets operated by Cairn India Limited. During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Company completed the sale of a 40% shareholding in Cairn India Limited to Vedanta Resources plc. In January 2011, Government of Greenland confirmed it as operator of Atammik and Lady Franklin blocks, and acquired 47.5% interest. On May 9, 2012, it acquired Agora Oil & Gas AS.
