The Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB) promotes maternal and infant health through a network of some 90 Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies state and local coalitions and about 100 organizational members. HMHB's focuses include maternal and infant health, child and adolescent health, and family and community health. It encourages pregnant women to seek early care, eat well, avoid drugs and alcohol, and to breast feed their babies. The organization was founded in 1981 by the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Nurses Association, the March of Dimes, the National Congress of Parents and Teachers, and the US Public Health Service.
