Artisans have found a friend in Etsy. The company operates Esty.com, which has been billed as "the handcrafter's Amazon.com", an online marketplace for handmade and vintage items such as jewelry, clothing, art, and housewares. Etsy.com has grown to a community of more than 25 million members and 900,000 online shops. Revenues come from the small listing fee and sale commission it charges sellers. Etsy also allows its sellers to buy a spot in the site's main showcase of featured items. Its office in Brooklyn, New York, called the "Etsy Labs", houses a workspace for craft-making, workshops, and special events.
