Vertigo Comics' profile is suggested for mature readers. Such is the warning printed on comics published by the adult imprint of DC Entertainment. The imprint's books push the boundaries of its more standard comic competitors by including curse-laden dialogue and sometimes graphic depictions of violence and sex. Vertigo's comics, which have a rabid fan base, include the revenge fantasy 100 Bullets; Fables, about exiled fairy tale characters living in modern day Manhattan; and Y: The Last Man, concerning a plague that has killed all but one of the world's men. Vertigo traces its roots to 1993 when DC published Neil Gaiman's ground breaking Sandman series. The comic served as the model for future Vertigo titles.
