Organizations turn to Social Investment Scotland (SIS) for loan financing when commercial banks turn them away. SIS is a charitable private partnership with backers that include the country's largest banks -- Clydesdale Bank, Lloyds Banking Group, and the Royal Bank of Scotland -- that provides loan finance and business support to social enterprises and voluntary organizations that do not fit lending criteria of commercial banks. Its main fund, Futurebuilders Plus, supports social economy organizations operating in Scotland; the Edinburgh Fund funnels grants to social enterprises in the city. SIS was founded in 2001 by the Scottish governement with backing from commercial banks.
