Iran Aseman Airlines knows the skies over the Middle East. (Aseman is the transliteration of "skies" in Farsi, Iran's national language.) The carrier flies to nearly 40 destinations throughout its Persian homeland as well as to neighboring countries. Its main hub is the airport in Tehran with two others in Iran and a third in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The carrier operates a fleet of some 50 planes, including Fokker 100 and Boeing 727 jets as well as ATR-72 turboprops. Ongoing US economic sanctions against Iran have hampered Iran Aseman's ability to acquire new planes and parts at the most cost-effective rates.
