DTRA aims to make WMD DOA. The Defense Threat Reduction Agency, a Department of Defense combat support agency, works to counter weapons of mass destruction such as chemical, radiological, biological, nuclear, and explosive weapons. It conducts research and analyzes potential threats to provide contingency plans for possible WMD attacks. DTRA works with fellow DoD agency Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction to provide front-line military support. It also awards contracts to private firms for the development of vaccines, security systems, and other prevention measures. The group supports US and other government agencies from more than a dozen locations around the world.
