Judging and Prizes

Groups

The competition is open to all students attending a school in the UK between the ages of 4 and 16. Doodles will be judged in the following four age brackets:

  • 5-7 years old
  • 7-11 years old
  • 11-14 years old
  • 14-16 years old

Judging Process

480 Regional Finalists

10 finalists will be chosen for each age group in each of the 12 UK regions: Eastern England, North West, North East, East Midlands, West Midlands, South West, South East, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Yorkshire & Humberside.

Prizes: Doodle 4 Google certificate

48 Regional Winners

48 regional winners will be chosen across the age groups and regions.

Prizes: Frame copy of their doodle, doodles to be displayed on the Doodle 4 Google website for public vote, Doodle 4 Google goody bag.

4 National Age Group Winners

The public will be asked to vote online for their favourite doodle from each age group, to help select the four national winners.

Prizes: Interactive white board for school.

1 National Winner

Dennis Hwang, Google's webmaster, will pick the overall national winner

Prizes: The winning doodle will be hosted on Google's homepage at www.google.co.uk for 24 hours. The winner will also receive a week-long trip with their family to California, USA. (The trip is for 7 nights, for a maximum of four people, including one adult).

Judging criteria

A panel of design, education and cultural experts will evaluate the entries based on the following criteria:

  • Artistic merit - based on age, drawing skills and use of colour.
  • Creativity - based on the representation of the My Community theme and use of the Google logo.
  • My Community communication - how well the designer's concept of the theme is expressed.
  • Supporting statement - how well they explained their vision of the community.
